In his New Year¡¯s message, Chairman Kang Myung-soo of the Korean Standards Association said, ¡°We have to offer educational and differentiation certification services using virtual reality and metaverse by leading humane and social demand such as ESG and sustainable development and accepting new trends of non-face-to-face technologies after precisely catching up with these changes.¡±

The following are excerpts of Chairman Kang¡¯s message.

We had excellent achievements thanks to your dedication and synergetic effects of collaboration. Now is the time we can make a fresh start to continue the achievements. We have to concentrate on our 2024 Vision of being a knowledge service institution, spearheading digital transformation and ESG management.

Almost two years have passed since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world. Amid continuous uncertainties, Korean economic research institutions presented economic outlooks for this year based on two or three scenarios.

They lowered their economic growth forecast for this year to between mid-2 percent and mid-3 percent over last year, depending on the development of treatment COVID-19 drugs and the length of the pandemic.

Lowering the global economic growth outlook to 1 to 2 percentage points lower than last year is prevailing. But despite new variants of the coronavirus, a situation with new cases continues to unfold.

The bottlenecks in supply chains, which raised inflation pressure last year, is expected to be eased, albeit limitedly.

Even though the outside environment is complicated, I politely ask for our association to collect wisdom and capabilities so we can be united through communications with outside and inside customers. Hardships and crisis may open up opportunities.

Following the spread of the pandemic, our society is examining how a sustainable and digital transformation can be accelerated naturally.

Companies¡¯ carbon reduction and carbon neutrality, which emerged as pain points in the past, tend to change into positive points for their voluntary innovation, and customers purchase products after considering whether they guarantee social and environment sustainability.

Non-face-to-face communication and educational demand, caused by the pandemic, has accelerated society¡¯s digital transformation.

We have to offer educational and differentiation certification services using virtual reality and metaverse by leading humane and social demand, such as ESG, and sustainable development and accepting new trends of non-face-to-face technologies after precisely catching up with these changes.

This year¡¯s reorganization is designed to build a customer-oriented entity responding to the market environment, and realign the functions of departments to raise the quality of the conventional businesses.

The Standard Performance Innovation Center has been inaugurated to ramp up roles of a representative standardization institution in Korea and abroad in conjunction with the government¡¯s state R&D and standards.

The Management Innovation Center has changed into the ESG Management Center to expand businesses related to ESG to grasp business opportunities and strengthen market responses.

The Life-long Education Center has changed into the Management Education Innovation Center to take over the job innovation support business.

The Smart Factory Center has altered into the Smart Innovation Center to widen its business scope to digital transformation.

KSA, celebrating the 60th anniversary this year, will devote itself to realizing an advanced management regime through management infrastructure innovation by ramping up business competitiveness to solidify its standing as a global institution specializing in standards and quality and building future growth foundation based on the trends of the times.
