MOTIE and KICOX hold ceremony to mark the 2021 anniversary of Industrial Complex Day

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and Korea Industrial Complex Corp. (KICOX) held a ceremony to celebrate the 2021 anniversary of Industrial Complex Day at Seoul G-Tower Convention Center on Nov. 11. 

Among about 90 people on hand at the event were MOTIE Deputy Minister Hwang Soo-sung, Lee Yong-jae, head of the Planning Office at the Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development, and KICOX President Kim Jung-hwan.

The anniversary event was held under the theme ¡°Further Better Future, Industrial Complexes with ESG.¡±

Industrial Complex Day has been held annually since 2019 to celebrate the achievements of industrial complexes, which have played leading roles in the growth of the national economy and encourage businessmen of tenant companies, a force behind the resurge of the manufacturing industry.

Seventy-nine people were honored with orders and other government prizes in recognition of their contribution of the development of industrial complexes. 

The coveted Order of Industrial Service, Steel Tower went to President Lee Deuk-chi of Vexan Steel for his contribution to the development the raw material industries through endless R&D and investments in automation and nano industries for the past 30 years.

President Kim Young-tae of Wooju Construction and President Woo Soo-taek of Derkwoo Electronics were presented with the presidential award for the development of industrial complexes through innovation of the petrochemical plant field and the development of camera modules for smartphones, respectively.

In his commemorative speech at the event, MOTIE Deputy Minister Hwang said, ¡°I extend thanks to businessmen of tenant companies for their contribution to the development of the national economy despite hard conditions, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and urge you to seize carbon neutrality and sustainable management as opportunities for development and creating jobs and new industries.¡±

MOTIE supports the realization of eco-friendly, green industrial complexes and digitalization of industrial complexes and expedites conversion of industrial complexes into low-carbon, digital innovation centers, he said. 

Deputy Minister Hwang said the ministry will provide full support to nurture R&D and new industries to cope with climate change, establish K-ESG index, corresponding to global standards and help companies realize carbon neutrality and sustainable management through financial and marketing support.
