Lotte Confectionery has opened one “Lotte Confectionery Sweet Home,” local children’s centers, in agro-fishery village areas every year since 2013. The company opened its ninth one in Saha-gu, Busan, on Nov. 5.
Lotte Confectionery Sweet Home is being built with proceeds from Pepero sales. Pepero is a cookie stick, dipped in compound chocolate, produced by Lotte Confectionery.
The Lotte Confectionery Sweet Home project is a social contribution activities Lotte Confectionery is conducting in cooperation of Save the Children, an international charity NGO.
Lotte Confectionery Sweet Home is built for children in farming and fishing areas with insufficient play and study space, compared to urban districts.
It also acts as a regional children’s center, where children can study and play after school in a safe and pleasant environment.
Nutritional supplements and seasonal fruits are delivered to children using Lotte Confectionery Sweet Home and their athletic activities are supported.
Lotte Confectionery Sweet Home has been established in Wanju, Jeollabuk-do, Yecheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Yeongwol, Gangwon-do, Hongseong, Chungcheongnam-do, Bonghwa, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Taean, Chungcheongnam-do, Shinan, Jeollanam-do, and Saha-gu, Busan.
On top of the establishment of Lotte Confectionery Sweet Home, Lotte Confectionery has conducted “Sweet Picnic,” inviting children and teachers with Lotte Confectionery Sweet Home since 2013.
Sweet Picnic is an event inviting children in farming and fishing areas to regional landmarks and sharing happiness. Such social contribution activities are designed to show interest toward children on a continuous basis and help them have diverse experiences, not transient ones for show.
Lotte Confectionery is also implementing the “Sweet School” project. The project, being conducted with proceeds from the sale of Pepero, is designed to build a new play space in elementary schools to guarantee children’s right to play.
The first Sweet School was established at Bangok Elementary School in Gijang-gun, Busan, in 2020.
A second one was open at Wontong Elementary School in Inje, Gangwon-do, on Nov. 9, 2021. The first and second schools were named “All-Happy Playground” and “Dream-Containing Playground” by the students.
Lotte Confectionery plans to continue to implement warm sharing activities to share “the warm” with needy neighbors down the road.
