Implements ¡°Sunshine Sharing,¡± a vision for social contribution activities, established by the refinery

S-OIL CEO Hussain A Al-Qahtani was honored with the Order of Industrial Merit, Silver Tower at the 58th Trade Day anniversary event at COEX in Seoul on Dec. 6. 



CEO Hussain A Al-Qahtani of S-OIL received the Order of Industrial Merit, Silver Tower at a ceremony to celebrate the 58th Trade Day anniversary at COEX in Seoul on Dec. 6.

CEO Al-Qahtani has been recognized for his contribution to raising Korea¡¯s national competitiveness and the development of the industry by successfully putting into operation multi-purpose, refinery/petrochemical facilities in Ulsan with an investment of 5 trillion won and implementing a 7 trillion won- follow-up investment plan without interruption despite the pandemic.

He has been credited for demonstrating his excellent leadership based on long-tern strategies by spearheading forefront management activities such as inaugurating of an ESG commit and entering of the hydrogen industry to brace for a new era of energy paradigm shift and carbon neutrality.

CEO Al-Qahtani, of Saudi Arabia, worked for Saudi Aramco, the world¡¯s largest energy company, for 29 years. He took office as CEO of S-OIL in June 2019. 

CEO Al-Qahtani has been implementing massive investment projects to upgrade its petrochemical facilities and improve export competitiveness to brace for a new energy paradigm era based on his profound experiences in all areas, including production, engineering, R&D and project, and excellent management capabilities. 

CEO Al-Qahtani has spearheaded strategic decision-making of maxing out economical benefits such as optimizing and improved efficiency by stabilizing the operation of the state-of-the-art S-OIL New Complex (RUC & ODC) project, which is the largest in the history of domestic oil and petrochemicals industry.

S-OIL expands ESG management

S-OIL is accelerating efforts to conduct ESG activities designed to promote shared growth with regional communities. 

S-OIL signed an agreement with Goyang City and the Han River Basin Environment Office to preserve Janghang Wetland in Janghang-dong on Nov. 8 and delivered 150 million won to provide patronage. 

The money will be used to support the preservation of the Janghang Wetland and restore otter habitats. The Janghang Wetland site is a marsh district in Shinpyeong-dong, Janghang-dong and Beopgok-dong, Goyang City, located at an estuary of the Han River.
 
Janghang Wetland was registered as Korea¡¯s 24th wetland of the Ramsar Convention in May 2021.

CEO Hussain A Al-Qahtani of S-OIL said, ¡°S-OIL will assist continued efforts to expand public sympathy toward the preservation of the ecosystem and put it into practice.¡±

S-OIL is implementing ¡°Sunshine Sharing,¡± a vision of social contribution activities, established by the refinery to put into practice sharing and fulfill social responsibility. The Sunshine Sharing programs include campaigns to protect natural monuments and regional society.
