Samsung SDS, a global software solution and IT services company, has released ¡°Cello Square,¡± an IT-based export and import logistics service, to help Korean SMEs enter foreign markets.
Cello Square is a service designed to handle all processes related to import and export logistics, ranging from quote to contract, transport, tracking and settlement.
Unlike the conventional integrated logistics platform ¡°Cello,¡± Samsung SDS has developed and opened ¡°Cello Square,¡± a rendition targeting SME exporters.
The digital forwarding platform makes it easier for SME exporters to find marine bulk freight, small amounts of freight, and air transport quotes according to the characteristics of freight and the logistics situation. It also assists with booking.
If transportation begins, exports can confirm the location of the freight in real time. In an emergency situation, exporters can consult with the operator to respond to it swiftly.
When transportation ends, exporters can look at a quote, a contract and settlement at once as well as reports on how to reduce logistics and improve efficiency in the future.
SME exporters have experienced difficulties, such as complex import and export procedures, and delayed quotation of logistics transporters.
The platform is expected to alleviate, to some degree, grievances and complaints SME exporters experience.
Oh Koo-il, head of Samsung SDS¡¯s Logistics Business, said, ¡°Services with a focus on the conventional express delivery service have been expanded to maritime international delivery service.¡±
A combination of Samsung SDS¡¯s experiences on the global logistics operation and new digital technologies will help Korean exporters enter foreign markets, he added.
Samsung SDS to Dispose of Home IoT Business
Samsung SDS plans to sell off the home IoT business. Zigbang, Korea¡¯s largest real estate listings app, is considering acquiring the home IoT business from Samsung SDS.
IT business sources said on Oct. 13 Samsung SDS held a session to explain its decision to sell the home IoT business and the current process to officials with the home IoT team.
The home IoT business is the sole B2C business of Samsung SDS with its mainstay B2B business.
It is Samsung SDS¡¯s sole hardware business with its mainstay products, such as smart door locks and home network equipment.
The most prospective buyer is Zigbang, which is reportedly negotiating an acquisition price. A Zigbang official said, ¡°Zigbang plans to decide whether the company will take over it after concluding a six-week due diligence.¡±
Samsung SDS once pushed a plan to dispose of the home IoT business in 2016.
At that time, the company held negotiations to sell the business with Allegion, a global security equipment and solutions provider, but the bid failed to materialize due to differences over acquisition terms, including acquisition prices.
