Korea Land & Housing Corp. (LH) held the 2nd meeting of the Public Sympathy Committee at LH¡¯s Seoul Regional Headquarters on Oct. 29.

The committee is headed jointly by Chairman Song Kyung-yong of Korea Social Value and Solidarity Foundation and LH President Kim Hyun-joon.

The meeting discussed issues, such as steps related to outcomes of a parliamentary audit of LH, conducted on Oct. 7, related ways of ramping up housing welfare and the introduction of ESG management.

¡°Several matters, which have been raised during the parliamentary audit, such as the blocking of special favors related to appraisal and assessment and design services, transparent procurement of raw materials and equipment and the reducing the vacant rental houses will be closely examined, and efforts will be made to pursue innovation to meet people¡¯s needs,¡± President Kim said at the meeting.

LH said the corporation is drawing up ESG management strategies based on outside and inside advise and consultations. In this context, the Public Sympathy Committee inaugurated the ESG subcommittee, charged with consulting and exploring ways stakeholders may participate.

LH plans to work out an ESG management delivery regime by December and translate it into action in earnest from 2022.

Initially, housing welfare candidates, such as non-house occupants will be explored to be supplied with rental houses as part of efforts to expand housing life services and realize social values.

LH plans to remodel 37,000 decrepit housing units into ones using LED lighting and photovoltaic power facilities this year.

The number will be expanded to 40,000 next year, the corporation said.

More than 30 public housing units will be required to minimize energy consumption under a zero-energy construction certification by 2025 to save 1200GWh annually, thus spearheading efforts to translate ESG into action.

¡°I hope LH will faithfully accept public views, reinvent itself endless and innovate itself,¡± Chairman Song of the Public Sympathy Committee said.

In particular, he said it is more important to maintain connectivity and communications with experts to implement housing welfare projects, and public interests, such as public housing welfare services need to be reinforced through aggressive cooperation with local governments, the private sector and NGOs.

President Kim said, ¡°LH will focus on ramping up housing welfare foundation to establish itself as a strong housing welfare platform and proactively translate ESG management into action so that we can obtain trust from people through transparent management embracing the environment and society.¡±
