Korea Western Power (KOWEPO) carried out a reorganization to smooth out an energy paradigm shift in the wake of the announcement of the 2050 carbon neutrality scenario, which raises greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals and builds a foundation for sustainable growth.

In this context, KOWEPO held a ceremony to award appointment certificates to newly inaugurated heads of the Planning and Management Division, offices at KOWEPO headquarters and chiefs of worksites on Nov. 8. The power company reshuffled officers of second grade or higher positions on Nov. 10.

In the latest reorganization, KOWEPO inaugurated the tentatively named Carbon Neutrality Pursuit Committee, a control tower to purse a companywide carbon neutrality, and the Environment Technology Division, charged with the development and commercialization of eco-friendly new technologies.

The steps are designed to lead the management of carbon neutrality tasks and creation of outcomes at the earliest possible date, diversify means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, such as the development of large-capacity carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies and reinvigorate the hydrogen economy through the generation based on hydrogen and other fuel.

The Information Technology Division has been created to be responsible for expanding Korean and foreign new energy businesses, implementing new businesses based on ICT, and building a foundation for sustainable growth, such as management attaching top priority to safety.

The Taean Power Generation Headquarters ramped up field safety by inaugurating the ¡°Process Health Department¡± and expanding the On-Site Safety Team.

Gimpo Construction Headquarters is now charged with the successful construction of the nation¡¯s first Korean-type combined power cycle plant and its test-operation.

The headquarters has been inaugurated to push for the timely conversion of the first unit of the Taean Power Generation Headquarter into an LNG-fueled one.

KOWEPO has raised the efficiency of its headquarters and reassigned 10 percent its manpower to work sites to augment on-site departments.

¡°Cornerstones should be laid to ramp up the prevention of safety-related accidents and anti-corruption activities above all to realize carbon neutrality and make energy paradigm shift a success,¡± KOWEPO President Park Hyung-duck said.

He urged the appointed officials to perform their jobs with a sense of responsibility as leaders so that KOWEPO can be upgraded a step higher.
