Dongwon Group announced a reorganization on Sept. 15 in which Dongwon Home Food, a subsidiary of Dongwon Group, inaugurated the Livestock and Meat Business Division.

The Livestock and Meat Business Division was created by integrating the existing Kumchon Business of Dongwon Home Food and Sejoong, a livestock company acquired by Dongwon Group recently.

The Livestock and Meat Business Division of Dongwon Home Food plans to raise annual sales to 800 billion won this year, from last year’s 550 billion won.

Dongwon Home Food plans to have synergetic effects by combining the Kumchon Business Division with distribution networks, and Sejoong’s expertise of processing and distributing its B2C imported meat products.

Executive Vice President Kang Dong-man of Dongwon F&B has been appointed to head the Livestock and Meat Business Division effective on Sept. 23.

Dongwon Group, supplying protein foods with a focus on fishery products such as tunas and salmons, aims to become a total protein provider, supplying comprehensive protein food items by expanding its business portfolio to the livestock industry.

The move comes as globally, protein food prices are surging in the wake of climate change and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amid the changing food industry environment, Dongwon Group plans to produce and supply quality protein food products in the fishery and livestock industries to customers at reasonable prices.

Dongwon Group released “Dongwon Tuna,” a first canned tuna product in Korea, in 1982. The group ventured into the dairy industry by taking over Haitai Dairy in 2006.

Dongwon now has the premium dairy brand “Denmark” and supplies a diverse array of dairy products such as milk, cheese and yogurt.

Dongwon Farms, established in 2007, has been with the feed industry for the growth of the pig, poultry and dairy businesses.

Dongwon Farms is implementing a project to set up a center to cultivate tuna in Yangyang, Gangwon-do, with an investment. The company is priming for the future protein food industry by venturing into farming fisheries.

The Kumchon Business is the successor of Kumchon, the nation’s largest B2B livestock online distribution company, which was acquired by Dongwon Home Food in 2015.

It now sells about 100 kinds of livestock products, including Korean beef, Korean pork and imported meats.

The Kumchon Business has maintained explosive growth, with an annual average growth rate of 25 percent since it was merged into Dongwon Home Food.

Sejoong is a B2C livestock processing company, acquired by Dongwon F&B in July. The company specializes in processing and distributing imported raw meats.

It has secured a variety of B2C distribution channels such as catering companies, convenience stores, large-sized marts and online shopping malls. Sejoong set up a new meat processing plant to ramp up productivity.

The latest reorganization has brought to four the number of the businesses of Dongwon Home Food: The Livestock and Meat Business Division, the Food Materials & Seasoning Division, the FS Dining Division and the Online Business Division.

Dongwon Group aims to be reborn as a total protein provider, supplying products and services to customers through diverse channels such as offline, online and O2O platforms.
