Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) has joined forces with Iljin Electric, a Korean nuclear power company, in winning a 10 billion won order from Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica (SNN) to supply transformers for the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant in Romania.
It is the first time KHNP has exported large-sized nuclear equipment and component abroad. KHNP will be responsible for managing the project and quality while Iljin will be charged with design and production of transformers.
Transformers, a major electric system facility of nuclear power units, are subject to high-intensity management and periodic replacement, so additional supplies are expected to be made in the future.
With the selection of a successful bidder, KHNP has established itself as a major supplier of the European nuclear power O&M market.
The winning order is expected to have secured an upper hand in landing future orders such as projects related to tritium removal facilities, the construction of a radwaste storage, the refurbishing of Krško Nuclear Power Unit 1 facilities in Slovenia, and new nuclear power unit projects.
Earlier, KHNP made several feats in Romaina by winning an order to supply in-core nuclear facilities last year, a feasibility study project related to a radwaste storage, and an order related to voltage stabilizers for the uninterrupted power supply of the power grid in May 2021.
Cernavodă NPP is a nuclear power facility in operation in Romania¡¯s eastern district whose pressured heavy water reactor is similar to that of Wolsong Nuclear Power units.
KHNP President Chung Jae-hoon, said, ¡°The achievement is a practice in which KHNP has expanded the overseas market through shared growth with a Korean nuclear power company.¡± KHNP will provide full support to help Korean nuclear power companies enter foreign markets down the road, he added.

KHNP¡¯s Cooperative Co. Dana Wins Order to Supply TSI Systems to Turkey
Dana, KHNP¡¯s cooperative SME, made a feat of landing an order to supply turbine supervisory instrumentation (TSI) systems to the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Turkey.
It is the first time that a product, developed through R&D collaboration between KHNP and its cooperative SME, will be exported via the SME¡¯s sole bidding, not forming a consortium with KHNP.
Dana is a Korean company specializing in ventilation supervision instrumentation system sector. The value of the winning project is $3 million (3.6 billion won).
TSI systems, an essential facility for the stable operation of turbines, were localized in 2011 through two years of development, which was conducted by KHNP¡¯s R&D support.
The performance and safety of TSI systems were verified by installing them at Kori Nuclear Power Units 3 and 4 in 2013 and Shin Kori Nuclear Power Units 5 and 6.
Dana has grown into a global company by exporting its products to Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
