NHIS Releases 2020 Social Responsibility Management Report

National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) has published the 2020 Social Responsibility Management Report, designed to share major activities and efforts NHIS performed for inside and outside stakeholders, and raising public health and the quality of life.


The 2020 Social Responsibility Management Report is the first such report to be issued on a variety of social responsibility management activities NHIS carried out between 2019 and 2020, and their outcomes.


The report consists of five categories: health & welfare, public safety, happy worksites, cooperation for shared growth, and social contributions on NHIS¡¯ efforts to realize social values and their achievements.


Supplemental pages have been added to stress NHIS¡¯ efforts to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.


As for the health & welfare category, the report contains content such suggests imposing insurance premiums in a fair fashion, improving public benefits through the sharing of public data, the strengthening of health insurance coverage, and the improving of long-term nursing services.


As for the public safety category, it introduces the establishment of a safety and health management regime through the certification of ISO45001, the international standard on safety and health management system, and the strengthening of medical safety net like support for medical institutions related to the pandemic.


For the happy worksites category, the report touches on social responsibility management achievements, such as the certification of family-friendly excellent institution for the 12th consecutive year from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF).


Regarding cooperation for shared growth, the report mentions institutional reform and support for shared growth with its cooperative companies, reaching more than 165 percent vs. the target in changing temps to regular employees, creating 17,360 jobs in the private sector in 2020 and purchasing locally produced items worth 7.4 billion won to reinvigorate the regional communities.


As for the social contribution category, it elaborates on the creation of social values through environment management, the provision of medical expenses to low-income households and projects to provide support tailored to meet the underprivileged.


The report has been worked out in conformity with the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) Standards, and it has reflected 10 principles of the United Nations Global Impact (UNGI) and secured objectivity and fairness through a third-party verification by Korea Management Research (KMR).


NHIS President Kim Yong-ik said, ¡°It is meaningful to share NHIS¡¯ efforts to realize social values and achievements through the publication of the port, and NHIS will create values so that stakeholders can experience by implementing social responsibility activities based on ESG management paradigm as the nation¡¯s top health insurance entity.¡±

NHIS Holds Int¡¯l Seminar to Share Experiences on Operation of Health Systems


National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) held an international seminar to share its experiences on the operation of health systems, and to discuss ways of achieving universal health insurance and sustainable regimes targeting Indonesia, Moldova, Georgia and Kazakhstan on Aug. 5.


Participants in the on-line seminar included BPJS-Kesehatan of Indonesia, one of the ¡°New Sothern Countries,¡± and Kazakhstan¡¯s Social Security Fund, and Georgia¡¯s Health Ministry.


NHIS has exchanged experiences on the operating of health systems since it signed an MOU with BPJS-Kesehatan of Indonesia in 2017.


NHIS has contributed to improving health systems of developing countries under the Korea-Word Bank Partnership Facility (KWPF).
