Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) carried out a reshuffle on July 15, inaugurating the Power Innovation Division to spearhead the carbon neutral era through the overall innovation of the power supply system, and drive shared growth of the power industry ecosystem.

The step is designed to increase flexibility, elasticity and innovative change for the power grid to accomplish carbon neutrality and an energy paradigm shift.

Decarbonization of power and decentralization are required to be pursed.

KEPCO inaugurated the Power Innovation Division, responsible for the establishment of power grid operation strategies for carbon reduction technology development, recycling and the spreading of the decentralization of the power grid.

The companywide tasks involve the integration of functions related to ESG management and serving a control tower for the establishment of strategies and policy coordination.

The Carbon Neutrality Strategy Department and the Sustainable Growth Strategy Department have been set up under the control of the division.

The Carbon Neutrality Strategy Department is charged with expanding renewable energy and power decentralization, as well as the establishment of carbon neutral strategies and securing competitive carbon reduction technologies.

It is also responsible for ramping up collaboration to maximize synergetic effects among power companies.

The Sustainable Growth Strategy Department is charged with institutional and procedural reform related to supplying power and maximizing consumer benefits, which is designed to comply with environmental, economic, safety, other diverse demands.

It is responsible for supervising the establishment and execution of ESG strategies to advance ESG management and promote communications and cooperation with stakeholders.

KEPCO Develops Wind Power Transportation Technology

KEPCO developed the multipurpose mobile base, the world’s first vessel that could transport fully built wind power units, including the turbine and the upper and lower structure. KEPCO held a ceremony to launch the MMB, a flat-bottomed ship, at a western Gunsan port on July 7.

Among people on hand at the event were KEPCO President Chung Seung-il, Jeollabuk-do Vice Gov. Woo Beom-ki, and Gunsan Mayor Kang Im-joon.

The technology involves the assembling of the power generator unit’s turbines and lower structure at a port so it can be transported. The technology will allow a wind power generation unit to be installed every 10 days at sea.
