Kim Young-moon took office as the eighth president of Korea East-West Power Co. (EWP) on April 26.
President Kim held an inauguration ceremony at EWP headquarters in Busan and began his term, which will end on Apr. 25, 2024.

President Kim started his public duty career after passing the 34th judicial examination in 1992. He held major posts at the Busan District Prosecutor¡¯s Office, Seoul Central Prosecutor¡¯s Office and the Justice Ministry.

When Kim was appointed to be commissioner of Korea Customs Service in 2017, he had accumulated expertise about the realization of public interest and administrative innovation.

In his inaugural speech, President Kim suggested four management tasks: people¡¯s happiness and development of the energy industry; endless innovation; securing competitiveness based on the 4th Industrial Revolution; and a vigorous, healthy corporate culture.

¡°EWP should plan, implement and evaluate duties in accordance with guidelines on how to contribute to improving people¡¯s happiness as a public entity, owned by people, and we will make our utmost to restore the national economy and realize social values through the development of the energy industry to meet people¡¯s expectations,¡± he said.

¡°The purpose of innovation is to doing duties well, not change itself, and we have to explore new ways of working our tasks well amid changes such as safety, environment and the 4th Industrial Revolution,¡± he said.

Convergence of the technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as robot technology, AI, big data and IoT will create a society whose type is not seen so far, and efforts should be made to evolve into smart plants based on these technologies, he said.

Lastly, Kim urged his executives and staffers to make a corporate culture in which they ponder how to execute their duties better and communicate with each other freely, saying that vigerous idea sharing among staffers and encouragement are key to a sustainable company.
