New President Kim takes helm of KIMIPO

Kim Ho-bin took office as the ninth president of Korea Midland Power Co. (KOMIPO) on April 26.


In his inaugural speech, President Kim said, ¡°I will be the CEO who learns endlessly to cope with rapidly changing management conditions based on experiences accumulated on the field of the power industry for about 30 years, and lends an ear to outside and inside views with an open-minded attitude.¡±


KOMIPO will be faithful to the expertise knowledge of the power industry and fundamentals to realize a fundamentally strong KOMIPO and a ¡°New KOMIPO creating future growth value,¡± he said.


Kim said he will spearhead efforts to make KOMIPO an entity capable of creating new growth engines in the rapidly changing energy transition period by concentrating staffers¡¯ capabilities.


Kim said KOMIPO will realize on-site management prioritizing safety, under the control of the president, and build a corporate culture in which all grow together based on trust and participation.


¡°We will create KOMIPO¡¯s brand ¡®energy leader¡¯ by achieving innovation based on eco-friendliness and technology self-sufficiency,¡± he said.


President Kim graduated from Seoul National University Machinery Design and Engineering Department and earned a doctorate from SNU¡¯s graduate school.


He entered Korea Electric Power Corp. in 1991 before he moved to KOMIPO in 2004. Kim has since held KOMIPO positions such as head of the New Energy Industry Group, chief of the National Agenda Planning & Promotion Group, and senior executive vice president in charge of technology safety.

KOMIPO Spearheads ESG Management


KOMIPO, celebrating the 20th anniversary, announced a comprehensive plan on April 27 to intensity the realization of social values to lead ESG management.


KOMIPO plans to establish four strategic goals under the ¡°2025 Vision of being asocial value creator to lead ESG management¡± and pursue balanced and comprehensive development encompassing the current and next generation.


Specifically, the power company plans to channel 200 billion won annually in its budget to implement projects such as supporting job creation and the socially underprivileged, promoting shared growth and reinvigorating the regional communities, promoting cooperation with large- and small-sized companies and shared growth, and establishing transparent ethics regimes and protecting human rights.

 
These are designed to enhance the quality of society members¡¯ life by reinvigorating eco-friendliness and smart economy, creating jobs for shared growth and spreading social values abroad.


Besides, KOMIPO will pour a combined 800 billion won in the environment sector by next five years. It targets reducing air pollutant emissions by 82 percent by 2025 over 2015 levels.


KOMIPO will set aside a combined 200 billion won in the social segment in next five years. The power company plans to create 500 jobs, 36 startups and see its cooperative companies export $23 billion by 2025.


KOMIPO aims to retain a 1st class in integrity evaluation by 2025 and enter the Hall of Fame by obtaining hum rights management certificate for the fifth consecutive year.


KOMIPO President Kim said, ¡°Our company, marking the 20th anniversary this year, stands firm as a youthful KOMIPO.


The declaration of this plan is KOMIPO¡¯s first step toward a 100-year-old company, and a turning point to make the power company make a leap forward as a global company spearheading ESG management.¡±
