New MOLIT Minister Noh Calls for Public Housing Development in Line with Private Sector
In his inaugural speech, he pledged to restore lost trust through a heavy sense of responsibility

Minister Noh Hyeong-ouk of the Office of Government Policy Coordination (OPC)/Prime Minister¡¯s Secretariat took off as minister of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry (MOLIT) at Sejong Government Complex on May 14.
Minister Noh delivered his inaugural speech in which he vowed to restore lost trust through a heavy sense of responsibility.
New MOLIT Minister Noh, attaching the pending top priority of stabilizing low-income people¡¯s housing, said he will devote himself to stabilizing the market and expanding supply.
Following the government¡¯s steps announced on Feb. 4, Noh said the housing market had shown signs of stabilizing, but there also was much talk about the overly hot housing market of late.
He called for ample housing supply in downtown areas without delay. As for the housing supply perspective, Noh disclosed his intention to collaborate with Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) and related institutions so that public housing development can be complemented with the private sector¡¯s housing development.
¡°Several related organizations, including SMG, will have to cooperate and communicate closely based on consensus on stabilizing the real estate market and expanding housing supply, and we have to put together wisdoms so that public development and private sector development can be complementary,¡± Noh said.
Noh stressed a Chinese saying ¡°haehyeongyeongjang,¡± meaning soul-searching and correcting malpractices, saying that he will reform a situation of public distrust, caused by housing price hikes and public sector¡¯s speculation to people¡¯s levels.
Minister Noh, born in Sunchang, Jeollabuk-do, graduated from Gwangju Jeil High School and Yeonsei University Political Science Department. He earned a master¡¯s degree in applied economics from Institut d¡¯Études Politiques de Paris.
He began his public servant career at the Ministry of Economy and Finance after passing the 30th higher administrative examination.

Noh held stints such as director general in public innovation and planning, director general in charge of social budget, director general in charge of administrative budget, director general in charge of financial management, second vice minister of the OPC, and minister of the OPC.
Minister Noh presided over a meeting with heads of organizations related to housing, including Korea Housing Association and Korea Housing Builders Association to take stock of the developments of the government¡¯s Feb. 4 measures on May 18.
Meanwhile, the government plans to implement strategies to raise sales in the geospatial industry to 13 trillion won by 2025 to place 7th in the world. The major takeaway of the strategies is about ¡°digital twin in which a wide array of land information can be realized into a virtual world.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) finalized the 3rd master plan to promote the geospatial information industry between 2021 and 2025 on May 16.
Geospatial information is a key infrastructure connecting the reality and a virtual world in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution in which super connectivity, super intelligence and super convergence can be realized.
Geospatial information takes on more significance as digital transformation of all industries and technology and information convergence is progressing fast with a focus on the Korean New Deal.
The latest master plan stipulates three implementation strategies and 12 major tasks.
