Samsung C&T Construction Group won a 1.8 trillion won project to build a passenger terminal from Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan.

The order, placed by Taoyuan International Airport Corp., involves the construction of the third passenger terminal of the airport.

Taoyuan International Airport, which opened in 1979, is Taiwan¡¯s No. 1 international airport. It is located some 50 km north of Taipei, the capital of Taiwan.

The airport has pushed a project to build a third passenger terminal to solve the crowding of the airport¡¯s second passenger terminal, which was opened in 2010.

Samsung C&T teamed up with Taiwan¡¯s contractor RSEA Engineering in forming a consortium, which was awarded the project. The total value of the project is worth $1.56 billion (1.8 trillion won). Samsung C&T¡¯s share is worth 1.24 trillion won.

The construction period is 60 months. Samsung C&T will be responsible for the construction of a passenger terminal and board gates with 550,000 sq. meters in floor space capable of accommodating 45 million passengers annually.

The project will require high levels of construction technologies, such as large-sized roof steel trust and atypical ceilings, as well as technology capabilities designed to cope with interference related to the operation of the first and second passenger terminals.

Samsung C&T was evaluated highly for presenting differentiated technology proposals such as modularization methods and space creation using Building Information Modelling (BIM) the Korean contractor has accumulated in the course of implementing high-tech construction projects.

Samsung C&T has established itself as a strong contractor, accumulating expertise and experiences while implementing a multiple of airport projects in Korea and abroad. Samsung C&T was responsible for the construction of the first passenger terminal of Incheon International Airport and its expansion project.

The Korean contractor successfully dedicated New Ulaanbaatar International Airport in Mongolia in 2017. It was engaged in a project to improve the ground of Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok International Airport and the expansion of runways of Singapore¡¯s Changi International Airport. Samsung C&T is now implementing a project to expand Bangladesh Dhaka Airport.

Recently, Samsung C&T landed a $448.1m (S$604m) civil engineering contract for the first phase of the Cross Island Line (CRL) by Singapore¡¯s Land Transport Authority.

Singapore¡¯s eighth Mass Rapid Transit line, CRL will serve the existing and future developments in the eastern, western, and north-eastern corridors connecting major hubs, including Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi region.

Samsung C&T posted more than 6 trillion won in the combined value of winning orders in the first quarter of this year.

They include a project to build an LNG exporting terminal in Qatar, a subway project in Singapore and the latest airport project in Taiwan.
