New Chairman Chung Dong-hee of Korea Power Exchange (KPX) took office for his three-year term in an inauguration ceremony at KPX headquarters in Naju, Jeollanam-do, on April 5.
In his inaugural speech, KPX Chairman Chung said, ¡°KPX, marking the 20th year of its founding this year, has come of age, a time to establish a future identity of a youth and make a new leap forward, compared to humanity.¡±
¡°KPX ponders several things to make a leap forward, but one of the most important is to faithfully live up to its own roles,¡± Chairman Chung said. He stressed righteous management as a public entity and expanded institutional responsibilities through state energy policies and the ¡°Korean New Deal.¡±
During his term, he said KPX will prioritize realizing a low-carbon society through the support of an energy paradigm shift based on the strengthened foundation of a stable power supply regime, overhauling the power market and power grid operation regime, and building an institutional foundation to expand renewable energy and dispersed energy resources.
Chairman Chung also emphasized futuristic labor-management relations, ethics and a sense of integrity. He said he will lend an ear to the labor union and executives and staff members¡¯ views and aggressively carry out chairman¡¯s responsibilities.
Upon taking office, Chairman Chung toured the Central Power Control Center to get a briefing on the current status of the power supply. He gave words of encouragement to staff members on duty at the center and urged them to devote themselves to ensuring a stable supply of power.
Chairman Chung was born in 1962. He graduated from Seoul National University Mechanics Engineering Department and obtained a master¡¯s degree on international relations from Korea National Defense University and completed a doctorate degree on technology policy collaboration from Yonsei University.
He held major positions, such as director-general in charge of energy policies at the Committee on Green Growth, director-general in charge of industry, commerce and future policies at the Office for Government Policy Coordination at Prime Minister¡¯s Secretariat, director-general in charge of nuclear industry policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), administrator of the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), and president of Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL).

KPX Awards IT Maintenance Services to IT SME
KPX signed an agreement on commissioned power IT services for the maintenance and management of power IT systems with an IT SME on March 22.
The deal calls for awarding an IT SME an 18 billion won project for the maintenance of power IT systems, such as renewable energy certificates (REC), power and demand response markets.
The commissioned maintenance services have so far been done by a large-sized company produced such systems, but this is the first time an IT SME has been awarded the project.
The new IT SME will take over related maintenance technologies from the existing large company. KPX will help the new IT SME smoothly carry out the project by offering its in-house technologies, such as the provision of each system¡¯s outputs.
Yang Sung-bae, head of KPX¡¯s Operation Division, expressed hope the power IT technology base will be expanded, saying that this opportunity will explore an IT SME with a growth potential.
