Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corp. (SLC) has developed a technology to increase the compressive strength of bio sulfur concretes using waste related to landfill gas power generation. It obtained a patent on the technology.
SLC said the technology involves the strengthening of cement with desulfurization by-products, deriving from a 50MW in-house landfill gas power generation.
Conventional desulfurization by-products had been recycled for producing chemical fertilizers, but its treatment was not feasible economically.
The latest technology is expected to make the treatment of residual wastes easier and dramatically reduce treatment costs.
The latest technology enables the strength of concrete to be reinforced 2.25 times more than that of the conventional one, drawing a keen attention from the construction industry.
Lee Woo-won, chief of SLC¡¯s Resources Recycling Technology Research Institute, said, ¡°SLC¡¯s sole development of this technology has proved its technology prowess once again and efforts to commercialized the technology will be made through its transfer to the private sector.¡±
SLC President Seo Participates in Drive to Reduce Plastic Consumption in Daily Life
SLC President Seo Joo-won joined the ¡°Go, Go, Relay¡± campaign to reduce disposable items and plastic products during their daily life.
¡°Go, Go, Relay¡± Drive stands for don¡¯ts and dos. President Seo posted his message of putting into practice a promise of avoiding plastic bags and using regular shopping bags on his social media challenges.
President Seo designated the next runners of the relay, such as President Yoo Jae-chul of Korea Environment Industry & Technology, Co-chairman Shim Hyung-jin of Incheon Environment Movement Alliance, and Executive Vice Chairman Nam Kwang-woo of the Environmental Preservation Association.
Meanwhile, SLC has been conducting ¡°zero-waste¡± campaigns to use regular shopping bags instead of plastic bags, recycle waste banners and make and use ¡°my own handkerchiefs.¡±
