Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun delivered his New Year email message in which he said ¡°a mission all group executives and staff will have to always abide by despite the stark management environment is to realize the humane dream: safe, free mobility and peaceful life.¡±


To this end, Chairman Chung said, ¡°The year 2021 should become a year in which a paradigm shift into new growth engines is realized.¡± He expressed his determination to achieve tangible outcomes in eco-friendliness, future technology and business competitiveness through new challenges and changes.


Chung also stressed quality and safety, the keys to the respecting of customers. He said they will be foremost tasks that may be irreplaceable with anything else, and customers¡¯ trust can be attained by pursuing perfection.


With the dawning of the new year, Hyundai Motor Group is ushering in an era of ¡°future car¡± by releasing a number of eco-friendly cars.


The group aims to become a global EV juggernaut by putting on the market three kinds of EVs based on the EV-oriented platform E-GMP: Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia Motors CUV and Genesis CUV.


The group plans to sell 1 million EVs on the global market annually by expanding its EV lineup from eight cars to 23 by 2025.


Hyundai Motor Group is also accelerating efforts to build EV infrastructure.


The group itself will install 20 high-speed charging stations by 2021 while promoting cooperation with energy companies to expand the EV charging network.


Abroad, the group plans to build charging infrastructure tailored to meet local needs in cooperation with diverse partners, including IONIQ, a European high power charging network in which Hyundai has made strategic investments. Hyundai is pulling out all stops to build a hydrogen ecosystem.


The group plans to expand hydrogen fuel cell systems not only to global automakers but also supply them as power sources of ships, power generators and trains.


In a related development, the group lately unveiled the new brand for its hydrogen energy business ¡°HTWO,¡± a combination of hydrogen and humanity.

Hyundai Motor Group plans to strengthen strategic partnerships with hydrogen, energy and logistics companies around the world to secure an upper hand in the related hydrogen business segment with a focus on the development of next-generation hydrogen fuel cell systems that will be outfitted with future eco-friendly mobility vehicles such as urban air mobility (UAM).


Chairman Chung emphasized that his group will occupy the future market in advance by continuously investing into new technologies designed to ensure free movement and peaceful life.


The group plans to mass produce self-driving cars with ¡°Level 3¡± of vehicle autonomy by 2022, while pushing ahead with the commercializing self-driving services such as robotaxis by 2023.


Hyundai Motor Group is conducting a self-drivel Level 4 trial run on public road in Nevada, the United States, in cooperation with Motional, a self-driving joint venture with Hyundai.


The group plans to implement a project to commercialize self-driving services in major U.S. area in cooperation with Lyft, an American shared car service company.


Hyundai plans to focus on next-generation core software technologies. The group plans to offer utmost convenience and safety to customers by releasing vehicular software such as vehicle driving assistance, navigation connected with precision map, diverse connected and infortainment services.


The group is stepping on the gas to develop UAM line-ups covering passenger and cargo transformation markets.


With the release of an unmanned aircraft with hybrid powertrain for cargo transportation in 2026, it plans to put on the market a fully-automated UAM model optimized for urban operation in 2028 and an aviation mobility system plying to and from neighboring cities in 2030.


In the robotics segment, Hyundai will offer diverse solutions to customers in cooperation with Boston Dynamics, acquired by the group lately.


In particular, the group expects synergetic effects with Boston Dynamics to maximize the development of wearable robot technology, production and logistics automation technologies.
