K-eco Ramps Up Public Management of Recycling Life Waste

K-eco will operate a system designed to report and manage recycling life waste and support the strengthening of its public management in accordance with the effectuating of enforcement decrees of the revision of the Act on Managing Wastes.

Under the revised act, life waste dischargers are required to report to local authorities how to treat waste and related contracts in the case of their own handling them, effective Nov. 27.

The measure is part of follow-up steps of comprehensive steps to manage recycling life wastes, announced by the Ministry of Environment last year.

Local government authorities find it hard to look at the discharging amounts of life wastes and how they are treated since most multi-family units have their own contracts with recycling waste treatment firms.
With the operation of a recycling life waste and reporting and management system, from now on, local authorities will be able to set up a public life waste management regime covering recycling life waste treatment amounts.

K-eco said an e-reporting and management system is in place at the Recycled Resources Information Center.

A pilot program has been implemented since last April with 14 local authorities, including Seo-gu Office in Incheon, to ensure preparation for electronic management and the stability of its operation.

The pilot program involves 225 multi-family units and recycling life waste collection firms in order to reflect users¡¯ views and convenience.

In a related development, K-eco struck an MOU on the facilitating exchanges of information on multi-family housing management on Nov. 30.
