Govt. Lays Legal Basis for Creating ¡®Smart Industrial Complexes¡¯
Changwon Industrial Complex launches project to build smart production demonstration plant

The government approved revisions of the act on the facilitating of industrial clusters and the establishing of plants, paving the way for the creation of ¡°smart industrial complexes.¡±
Amendments to the law, which was passed by the National Assembly, were delivered and approved during a cabinet meeting on Nov. 19, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) said.
The government designated smart industrial complexes as one of the 10 representative tasks being implemented under the ¡°Korean New Deal.¡±
Under the revisions, industrial complexes will be digitalized based on the competitiveness of the world¡¯s top-tier ICT levels in order to make them hubs of advanced industries.
They will be realized as eco-friendly, green industrial complexes in which energy efficiency will be improved, new and renewal energies will be expanded and support for exchanging and reusing waste heat and by-products will be offered.
With the approval of the regulations, the definition of smart industrial complexes and project implementation regimes are stipulated and projects to create smart green industrial complexes will be likely implemented in a substantial fashion.
In a related development, Changwon Industrial Complex is emerging at the forefront of creating a smart industrial complex.

In September, President Moon Jae-in toured the Changwon Industrial Complex toured the Changwon Industrial Complex and announced action strategies related to smart green industrial complexes, calling for raising the number of smart green industrial complexes from seven this year to 15 in 2025.
The smart production demonstration plant, to be supervised by the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, will cost 35 billion won over three years. The project calls for the dedication of a smart green production demonstration plants early next year and a laboratory building late next year.

KICOX Host Ceremony to Mark 2020 Industrial Complex Day
Korea Industrial Complex Corp. (KICOX) and Korea Industrial Business Association (KIBA) jointly held a ceremony to celebrate the 2020 Industrial Complex Day in KICOX headquarters in Daegu on Nov. 12.
The event was designed to encourage tenant companies at industrial complexes across the nation and workers as well as reward those who have contributed to the development of industrial complexes.
Participants of the event shed new light to the values of industrial complexes, which have served as pivotal roles in the nation¡¯s economic growth and job creation and shared ways of promoting innovation of industrial complexes.
