CJ Cheiljedang has put on the market 260 kinds of Chusoek gift sets in keeping with four of the latest consumption trends, such as eco-friendliness, ¡°substance,¡± health and home meal.


They consist of SPAM gift sets, which is a steady seller during the Korean traditional holiday, convergence gift sets, ¡°black ginseng,¡± lactic acid bacillus, and other gift sets targeting health-conscious people as well as home meal replacements.


The company has come up with gift sets with a focus on eco-friendliness. CJ Cheiljedang has introduced two SPAM gift sets sans a yellow plastic cap and a ¡°European oil¡± gift set with an eco-friendliness package.


The move has led to a cut in the use of a combined 86 tons of plastic, 80 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and 1 million pieces of nonwoven fabric during this Chuseok holiday, the company said.


CJ Cheiljedang has released a wide array of Chuseok SPAM gift sets, reflecting consumption trends such as practicality and ¡°more bang for your bucks.¡± Price tags of the gift sets range from 10,000 to 70,000 won.


Among the Chuseok gift sets released by CJ Cheiljedang are SPAM series No. 8, No. 1 and No. 6, the most popular gift versions made with SPAM products. Chuseok gift sets have been also diversified with a combination of SPAM, premium oil, oligosaccharides (replacement for sugar), sesame oil products.


CJ Cheiljedang released two SPAM gift sets sans plastic caps, corresponding to consumption trends of environment-conscious consumers. Polypropylene (pp), a nonwoven fabric material, has been replaced with paper. Replacement has resulted to a reduction in the use of PP, an equivalent to a combined 88 tons of plastic.


The company plans to hold discounts and other promotion events to appeal to SPAM gift set buyers. As online sales are expected to be popular due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, CJ Cheiljedang is holding promotion events on the CJ The Market, the company¡¯s online food specialized mall.


CJ Cheiljedang is launching TV commercials titled ¡°Chuseok has also been restored to life by SPAM.¡± In the commercial, the diverse uses of SPAM are promoted by actor Yoo Yeon-seok to reflect current home meal trends.


¡°The gift sets have been prepared with the utmost sincerity to correspond to consumers¡¯ needs such as substance and value for the money,¡± a CJ Cheiljedang official said.

CJ Cheiljedang Designated as Model of Shared Growth for 2nd Straight Year


CJ Cheiljedang became one of the best fair-trade practices for two years in a row, chosen by the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC).


CJ Cheiljedang made it on the list of best fair practices announced by the KFTC at a session hosted by the commission at Sheraton Seoul Palace Hotel in Gangnam on Aug. 15.


The KFTC holds a session of fair-trade practices every year to spread exemplary practices to other companies.


Among those on hand at the session were KFTC Chairman Cho Sung-wook and officials of large-sized companies, including CJ Cheiljedang, Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Mobis, and Korean Air.


CJ Cheiling has been credited with promoting shared growth with Gyodong Food, one of its original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).


Gyeodong Food is an OEM company supplying ¡°Bibigo Yukgaejang¡± (spicy meat stew), a home meal replacement sensation.


CJ Cheiljedang has provided support to Gyodong Food to ramp up competitiveness by improving the latter¡¯s processes and providing quality guidance since 2016 when the former forged a cooperative relationship with the latter.


Gyodong Food saw its annual sales with CJ Cheiljedang soar to about 16 billion won, a fold-fold jump from 4 billion won in 2016.
