Uses one cable for both data and power; longest transmission distance in the world; installation costs 50 percent lower while increasing installation convenience
LS C&S has launched SimpleWide, a LAN cable that can send data and power as far as 200m at once.
LS Cable & System (LS C&S) has launched SimpleWide, a LAN cable that can send data and power as far as 200m at once.
This is double the limit of current LAN cables on the market, which can only transmit about 100m, thus making SimpleWide the world¡¯s best available LAN cable.
SimpleWide is intended to be used mostly for connecting IP cameras, phones, CCTVs and IoT devices.
No separate power cables and electrical outlets are required, and it can be easily installed in places like ceilings and small spaces, where it¡¯s difficult to install a power supply.
SimpleWide can also halve the number of connection devices like hubs, which are typically necessary at an interval of 100m.
¡°We can reduce the costs of power supplies, connection devices and construction costs by more than 50 percent,¡± said the company. ¡°SimpleWide is an innovative product that doubles the connection interval, which has passed for common sense in the LAN cable industry.¡±
LS C&S expects that the market will grow rapidly due to the spread of smart factories and buildings and the buildout of the Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure, and thus plans to concentrate on marketing.
In particular, the company believes that SimpleWide will be used more widely for IP cameras and CCTVs that are installed here and there in buildings.
¡°According to the government¡¯s ¡®Digital New Deal¡¯ policy, the building of the digital infrastructure will be more invigorated,¡± said President & CEO Myung Roe-hyun of LS C&S. ¡°We¡¯ll work hard to develop next-generation convergence products and smart products.¡±

1st Batch of Submarine Cables Shipped for Taiwanese Offshore Wind Farms
LS Cable & System has started shipping the first batch of submarine cables for Taiwan¡¯s offshore wind farms.
This is the first shipment for the submarine cable project totaling 500 billion won that LS C&S won from Taiwan.
Last year, LS C&S won the right to supply all the high-voltage (HV) submarine cables for the first offshore wind farm project being built in Taiwan.
This shipment, weighing 2,500 tons, is equivalent to a total length of 70km. The cables, transported from the submarine cable plant in Donghae, Gangwon-do to a ship in nearby Donghae Port will be installed in the wind farm off the coast of Yunlin Xian in the west of Taiwan during this month.
From 2020 to 2035, the Taiwanese government is planning to construct 15GW offshore wind farms in three projects and thus increase the proportion of renewable energy from 5% to 50%.
The plan will add 1GW of power generation - the equivalent of a nuclear power plant - each year. As the size of the remainder of the first and second projects is expected to exceed 1 trillion won over the next three years, the company is concentrating on winning additional orders.
The Taiwanese government is trying to localize energy equipment and materials, but the submarine cables, which require long-term technology development and investments, were excluded from the localization targets, which means a green light for LS C&S to win additional orders.
¡°Taiwan is an advanced market that is converting to renewable energy ahead of others,¡± said President & CEO Roe-hyun Myung of LS C&S. ¡°We will capitalize on our success in Taiwan to expand our market presence to Australia, Vietnam and Japan where the offshore wind power generation markets are expected to grow rapidly.¡±
