Jeongseon Forum 2020 will take place from Aug 20th to Aug 22nd at High1 Grand Hotel Convention Tower.
The forum will bring together global experts and provide them with opportunities to shore up their commitment for the shared global goals, SDGs, to address pressing challenges such as climate change and lowered sentiment among global citizens caused by COVID-19, reminding them what humanity has encountered, organizers said.
The forum, to be held under the theme ¡°Sustainable Earth and Balanced Human Life,¡± will be hosted by Gangwon provincial government and Gangwon Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The forum will have sessions on such topics as the Earth, humanity, international community, citizens, and businesses.
At an opening session on Aug. 20, Chairman Ahn Byung-ok of the Management Committee of the National Council on Clime and Air Quality, and Chairman Kim Sang-hyup of the Coalition for Our Common Future, will give keynote speeches under the theme ¡°Post-2020 Climate Change Regime and Green New Deal.¡±
Prof. Michael Sandel, of Havard University Law School, will give a lecture on sustainable development. Prof. Sandal is the author of such prominent books as ¡°Justice: What¡¯s the Right Thing to Do?¡±
The forum was launched as Gangwon-do Gov. Choi Moon-soon held a ceremony to declare ¡°PyeongChang Forum¡± at the United Nations headquarters in New York in December 2017.
The purpose of the forum is to lead the discussion of the international society¡¯s shared global goals, Sustainable Development Goals.
The name of the forum was set as PyeongChang Forum to inherit the spirit of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Its keywords have included earth/human beings, peace, and the disabled.
This year¡¯s forum is taking place in Jeongseon, one of the joint venues of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, under the theme ¡°Balanced Development of Joint Venues of the Olympic Games and Green New Deal.¡± The forum was held in Seoul in 2018, and it took place in PyeongChang last year.
Gangwon provincial government, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon Land, and Gangwon Convention & Visitors Bureau struck an MOU on the successful hosting of Jeongseon Forum in June.
They agreed to devote themselves to elevating Jeongseon Forum to global reclaimed forums such as Davos Forum by establishing a support and collaboration network among the province¡¯s international convention authorities and companies representing the closed mine areas.
