Executives of Lotte Group assembled in Busan to attend a ceremony to open Signiel Busan. Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin, accompanied by Lotte Group Vice Chairman Song Yong-duk and Vice Chairman Hwang Gak-kyu, participated in the event.
Among about 100 people on hand at the event were Minister Park Yang-woo of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), Busan Vice Mayor Park Sung-hoon, and Chairman Park In-young of Busan City Council.
Lotte Group executives¡¯ participation in the opening ceremony may be construed as the group giving more weight to the hotel business, grappling with hardships caused by the spread of COVID-19.
Earlier, Lotte Chairman Shin promised to reduce Japan Lotte Holdings¡¯ control over subsidiaries in Korea by listing Lotte Hotel. The opening of Signiel Busan is expected to have a favorable impact on the listing of Lotte Hotel.
The opening of Signiel Busan comes seven years after Park Hyatt Busan made its debut. Shinsaegae Chosun Hotel will open the new luxury hotel ¡°Grand Chosun Busan¡± in August.
Grand Chosun Busan, 500 meters away from Signiel Busan, will be opened by remodeling the existing Novotel Ambassador Busan. The opening of Signiel Busan is expected to firm up competition among luxury hotels in Busan.
