Dongkuk Steel celebrated the 66th anniversary of its founding with simplified events at its headquarters and operation sites on July 7.
In accordance with the government quarantine guidelines designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, anniversary gatherings were replaced by simplified long-term service awards ceremonies, presided over by each business head and online events.
Vice Chairman Jang Se-wook posted an intranet message marking the 66th anniversary in which he called for ¡°each member to make him or her honored at the current position to make us and the company worthwhile.¡± Dongkuk Steel¡¯s current success is owed to executives and staff members¡¯ efforts, he said.
Dongkuk Steel¡¯s anniversary volunteer activities gave way to a small number of volunteers¡¯ delivering 170 ¡°Happy Boxes¡± containing daily necessities and heath functional foods to regional children¡¯s centers and the underprivileged near its operations.
Meanwhile, Dongkuk posted on YouTube a video titled ¡°Dongkuk Steel¡¯s Night Site Overcoming COVID-19,¡± portraying a site crew¡¯s night shift work in celebration of the anniversary.

Dongkuk Steel Dedicates Cheongsan Regional Children¡¯s Center Built with Dongkuk Steel Products
Dongkuk Steel dedicated ¡°Cheongsan Regional Children¡¯s Center¡± in Okcheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, built with the steelmaker¡¯s earthquake-proof steel and the premium color steel brand ¡°Luxteel¡± products on June 3.
Skeletons of the two-story regional children center structure were built with 45 tons of Dongkuk Steel¡¯s quake-proof rebars and premium color steel brand Luxteel roof and exterior materials are also used.
Hong Sun-hee, architect, who designed the regional children center structure, said the intensity and quality of Dongkuk Steel¡¯s quake-proof rebars are trustworthy, Luxteel products are applicable to diverse forms of space with ease, and they have strengths like easy maintenance in Korea with changes of four seasons.
In 2012, Dongkuk Steel began to donate Luxteel products for the construction of the Sannaedeul Regional Children¡¯s Center in Gangjin, Jeollanam-do. In 2016, the steel maker also contributed steel products to the construction of a children¡¯s school in Tanzania.
Last year, Dongkuk Steel promised to donate materials to the construction of public regional children¡¯s centers, a project organized by Good Neighbors and SBS Hope TV. The steel maker has been devoting itself to shoring up the dreams of children in farming and fishing areas with insufficient privately-run educational institutes and cultural facilities.

Dongkuk Steel dispensed Onuri gift coupons worth 1.7 billion won to all Dongkuk Steel executives and staff members, including those of its cooperative companies, to reinvigorate the regional economy, hit hardest by the spread of COVID-19.
Dongkuk Steel decided to dole out the gift coupons to extend a helping hand to regional mom-and-pop business owners, grappling with hardships, caused by the novel coronavirus, in the neighborhood of its site operations and join forces in a social cause of overcoming a disaster crisis.
