Mirae Asset Daewoo Growing while Creating Synergies with IB, Trading and Overseas Sectors
Mirae Asset Daewoo continues to increase investments at home and abroad by utilizing equity capital of more than a trillion won (based on consolidated financial statements as of the end of 2019), creating synergies with investment banks (IBs), trading firms, and overseas businesses.
Mirae Asset Daewoo¡¯s overseas subsidiaries exceeded 100 billion won in annual net profit (before tax) for the first time as a securities company. It posted 170.9 billion won in net profit in 2019, sources in the financial investment industry said in late March.
The figure represented 19 percent of the Mirae Asset Financial Group¡¯s consolidated net profit and was the highest in the industry.
Mirae Asset Daewoo has the largest network among securities companies in Korea. The network includes 11 overseas subsidiaries and three overseas offices.
The company is performing differentiated business according to the characteristics of regions and countries through the industrial knowhow it has accumulated over the years.
Mirae Asset Daewoo¡¯s Hong Kong subsidiary was selected as a co-lead manager for an IPO of BioEntec, the largest biotech company in Europe, and an IPO of ESR, the largest logistics platform company in Asia.
In particular, during the IPO of BioEntec IPO, Mirae Asset Daewoo became the first Korean securities company to participate in listing a company on the NASDAQ market as a co-lead manager.
The Vietnamese and Indonesian subsidiaries are zooming in on differentiating their local businesses. The Vietnam subsidiary has the second largest amount of capital.
In the third quarter of 2019, the volume of margin trading topped 340 billion won, the highest among Vietnamese securities companies.
Its Indonesian subsidiary launched an online trading system in 2009. In 2010, it introduced Indonesia¡¯s first Mobile Trading System (MTS).
In 2018, it launched the first online fund sale in the country, leaning on its technology and knowhow. As a result of a focus on local customers and mobile technology based on advanced IT, it has maintained its ranking since it broke into the top-two club in the Indonesian securities market in 2018.
The New York and London subsidiaries are also performing highly in the prime brokerage service (PBS) and IB businesses through localization strategies and collaboration with affiliates.
Mirae Asset Daewoo has been providing customized services using big data and artificial intelligence (AI) in various areas such as global investment, financial products, and pensions since setting up a digital financial organization for the first time in 2017 as a Korean securities company.
The m.ALL integrated asset management service removes barriers among financial companies with a smartphone application and provides a total asset management services centered on individual financial consumers.
Its main services include integrated inquiries into assets at all financial companies, an easy search for financial companies, consumption, expenditure management, inquiries into real estate prices, and the recommendation of big data products.
Its basic services, including investment services, have also been enhanced. The Big Data Product Recommendation Service, developed jointly with Seoul National University, is a service that proposes products tailored to customers¡¯ investment propensity using AI.
The service utilizes a wide array of investment ideas about domestic and overseas equity investment to funds, ETFs, and pension investments.
¡°m.Club,¡± an AI-based stock recommendation service, has secured over 200,000 subscribers since its launch in November 2017. It provides a variety of contents using big data and AI, such as ¡°Super High Choice¡± which informs stocks which the top one percent of investors traded, and ¡°MY Series¡± which checks an investor¡¯s trading history and investment profit or loss.
¡°m.Global,¡± a trading application for overseas stocks and futures trades, assists investors by providing investment services for foreign companies to provide investment services, which provide research data from the US, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia and corporate overviews, financial statuses, stock prices, equity information, and global competitor analyses by partnering with Fn Guide.
