Will launch a service that allows users to communicate via 3D avatars with others with AR glasses and 5G smartphones

LG Uplus released 10 types of integrated roaming ¡°zero (roam properly)¡± plans last September. In particular, the Zero Premium Plan offers unlimited data and telephone services for 13,200 won per day in 78 countries.


LG Uplus provides roaming services in more than 230 countries, the largest number among Korean mobile carriers. LG Uplus has nearly five million subscribers in Korea.


It is focusing on 5G roaming services with a spike in the number of countries that commercialized 5G services. In July of last year, the company succeeded in testing the world's first 5G network linkage with Elisa of Finland.


Since September 2019, it has been providing 5G roaming services by partnering with China Unicom and Sunrise of Switzerland.


LG Uplus announced on Feb. 10 that it successfully completed the first 5G roaming test between Korea and Japan for 5G customers who will watch the Tokyo Summer Olympics this July.


LG Uplus signed an agreement to link 5G roaming services with KDDI, one of Japan's three largest telecommunications companies with more than 92 million subscribers.


In January, LG Uplus and KDDI completed 5G roaming tests for LG and Samsung 5G smartphones by starting the interoperation of their 5G networks and utilizing commercial 5G networks in Japan.


Since last year, KDDI has been building 5G base stations in major Japanese cities such as Tokyo, and is preparing to launch the service next month.


LG Uplus¡¯ 5G roaming services with KDDI will begin after the Japanese carriers commercialize 5G services in late March. LG Uplus currently plans to expand 5G roaming providers this year as commercial 5G services begin in earnest in major overseas countries.


LG Uplus is also planning to launch a service this year that allows users to communicate remotely using 3D avatars with parties afar with AR glasses and 5G smartphones.


LG Uplus said that it will push ahead with the development of 5G-based AR collaboration solutions by partnering with U.S. startup Spatial Systems, which develops an augmented reality collaboration platform, and Nreal, a manufacturer specializing in AR devices and Qualcomm.


In addition to manufacturers such as Spatial Systems, Nreal, and Qualcomm, LG Uplus¡¯ global partnership to develop AR remote collaboration platformsTompanies about to introduce commercial 5G services, such as KDDI of Japan and Deutsche Telekom of Germany.


LG Uplus will advance its services by combining the strengths of each company's technology and services through this partnership.


Therefore, users of LG Uplus will be meet and talk in AR space from afar and share and enjoy various types of contents in real time through augmented reality.


Nreal¡¯s AR devices are powered by Spatial Systems¡¯ software, offer wide viewing angles and have light weight. They are expected to provide customers with optimized AR experience on 5G networks.


In addition, smartphones for 5G networks loaded with Qualcomm¡¯s Snapdragon chipsets will enable LG Uplus subscribers to use an optimal system where they can collaborate in virtual space anytime and anywhere.
