Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corp. (SLC) signed a voluntary agreement to reduce fine dust emissions with six institutions and companies at Incheon¡¯s Seo-gu Ward Office on Feb. 18.

The signatories included Incheon¡¯s Seo-gu Ward Office, SK Incheon Petroleum Co., Shinincheon Power Complex of Korea Southern Power Co. (KOSPO), Seoincheon Power Complex of Korea West Power Co. (KOWEPO), Incheon Power Complex of Korea Midland Power Co. (KOMIPO), and Incheon LNG Combined Cycle Power Plant of POSCO Energy.

Under the deal, six companies, including SLC, aim to slash more than 20 percent of their target reduction goals of air pollutants such as fine dust, sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide by 2020 in cooperation with Incheon¡¯s Seo-gu Ward Office.

The agreement is expected to result in reducing fine dust and other air pollutant emissions by about 6,603 tons. The reduced air pollutant amounts have an effect of planning approximately 180 million trees based on a calculation of 35.7 grams of air pollutants per tree.

Choi Byung-jin, head of the Clean Energy Department at SLC, said, ¡°With the agreement, I¡¯m pleased to join forces in protecting residents¡¯ health and the environment of the district down the road, and we¡¯ll devote ourselves to creating a pleasant and clean environment.¡±

Meanwhile, SLC struck an agreement to implement a pilot project to introduce eco-friendly LNG vehicles such as waste vehicles at the Sudokwon landfill site along with Incheon¡¯s Seo-gu Ward Office and other related organizations in July 2019.

SLC is continuing to make efforts to reduce fine dust by coming up with a detailed incentive plan to expand the supply of eco-friendly waste carrying vehicles.
