Strikes deal with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction to jointly develop wind power projects

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) signed an MOU to jointly develop wind power projects with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction at the Plaza Hotel in Seoul on Dec. 4.
Under the deal, KHNP and Doosan will initially launch a project to implement the joint development of wind power farms with a combined capacity of about 150MW in the Gangwon-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do areas.
KHNP will oversee project management and renewable energy certificate purchases while Doosan will be in charge of acquiring licenses and permits, procuring of components and equipment and construction.
Under the agreement, KHNP will be able to push ahead with the East Coast farm belt strategy with projects under way in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Yeongwoel, Gangwondo on top of a 20MW wind power farm on Mt. Norae, Cheongsong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, set to be put into commercial operation this year.
KHNP became the first Korean company to establish a 750kW homemade wind power generator near the Kori Nuclear Power Complex in 2008. The deal will spur the spread of homegrown wind power generators, produced by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction.
KHNP President Chung Jae-hoon said, ¡°It¡¯s very encouraging to work as a business partner with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, a leading Korean-made wind power generator maker.¡±
KHNP will redouble efforts to expand renewable energies with the goal of securing wind power facilities with a combined capacity of 1.7GW by 2030, he added.
KHNP Dispatches Market Exploration Team to U.S. in Cooperation with SMEs
KHNP inaugurated a market exploration team with 19 Korean SMEs in New Orleans on Nov. 19.
The inaugurating of the market exploration team is designed to enter the United States market, which has the world¡¯s largest number of nuclear power units along with and infinite opportunities such as new construction, facility improvement and continued operation.
The market exploration team was arranged by KHNP in cooperation with Korea Nuclear Partners, an entity specializing in nuclear power components and equipment exports.
The move is designed to help KHNP¡¯s cooperative companies and secondary cooperative firms ramp up the industry ecosystem.
So far this year, KHNP has dispatched market exploration delegations comprising of 57 companies to Turkey, Spain, Vietnam and Laos.
The team to the United States participated in the international energy-power industry expo PowerGen International 2019 held at New Orleans Earnest N. Morial Convention Center from Nov. 19 to 21. They met with local buyers at a matching program.
KHNP and the organizer of the expo hosted the 2019 Korea-U.S. Power Industry Summit at the convention center to ramp up cooperation between the two countries and help Korean participating companies raise their export capabilities.
