Hyosung Group boasts spandex and tire codes as its No. 1 products on the global market, attributable to endless technology innovation based on proprietary technology prowess. Hyosung¡¯s ¡°success DNA¡± lines up nicely with technology competitiveness.

Hyosung aims to become a company that will be unshakable by aggressively nurturing new material businesses, based on its rich technology prowess.

Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun-joon has stressed that Hyosung¡¯s executives and staff should possess a sense of pride that their technology and products are among the world¡¯s best.

As for the development of advanced materials, Hyosung developed carbon textiles using its own technology following about 10 years of research.

Hyosung has been operating a carbon textile plant capable of producing 2,000 tons annually in Jeonju City, Jeollabuk-do since 2013. A project to expand the annual production capacity of the facility to 2,000 tons is under way.

Hyosung T&T¡¯s spandex brand ¡°creora¡± has maintained the global No. 1 ranking. Spandex is a functional textile, dubbed ¡°the semiconductors of textiles.¡± Hyosung embarked on the development of spandex in 1989 and became the first Korean company to develop spandex in the early 1990s.

Hyosung has developed an innovative product portfolio tailored to meet customers¡¯ diverse demands based on its proprietary technology power.

Creora Fresh, reinforced with functions of removing sweat and bad odors, always gives users a sense of pleasantness and refreshment. ¡°Creora highclo¡± is used to produce durable and chlorine resistance- swimsuits.

Swimsuits, made with Creora Fresh are on display at the Unique by Mode City and Interfilière Paris.

Hyosung¡¯s products have been recognized as the world¡¯s No. 1 item for the polyester tire code market, as the group has concentrated its research on the industrial textile segment, such as tire reinforcements and yarn for air bags.

The expertise and fundamentals Hyosung has accumulated in the course of the implementation of the textile business has evolved into high-performance, specialized textiles like aramid and carbon.

Hyosung Heavy Industries has been recognized as having the nation¡¯s top technology competitiveness in the heavy electric equipment sector for transmission/distribution by developing the nation¡¯s first super-voltage transformer for nuclear power and 1,100kW super-voltage circuit breaker.

Will Hyosung Achieve Another Milestone in Carbon Textiles by Breaking Japanese Dominance? Hyosung Group announced a plan on Aug. 20 to plunk down 1 trillion won into the carbon textile segment over the next 10 years.

The move may be construed as Hyosung¡¯s bid not only to secure carbon textiles as its new growth engine, but to overcome Korea¡¯s dependence on Japanese-made raw materials and part imports.

Carbon textiles are lighter than steel, but the former boasts strength 10 times higher than the latter.

Thanks to these attributes, carbon textiles are dubbed as a ¡°dream raw material.¡± They are in wide use in several sectors, ranging from automobiles and aviation to sports goods.

But Japanese are dominating the global carbon textile market, so carbon textiles are categorized as ¡°core¡± items under stringent export surveillance by the Japanese government, a move intended to manipulate the market and damage the competitiveness of Korean companies.

Hyosung¡¯s decision to aggressively pour 1 trillion won into the sector is expected to boost expectations for Korea to break Japan¡¯s technology hegemony in the sector.

The group signed a contract with the Jeonju municipal government to invest 680 billion won. The project involves new investments adding up to 10 more production lines. The first line, which cost 250 billion won, is now onstream.

The second one, costing 70 billion won, is to be opened next January. The group aims to rise to the global No .3 company in the carbon textile market by setting up the world¡¯s largest carbon textile plant with investments amounting to 1 trillion won.
