About 50 experts and officials from industry, academia and research circles attend symposium on the sidelines of BIXPO 2019
Experts from industry, academia and research circles participate in an integrated workshop of Korea CIGRE Power System Group Study Committee, hosted by Korea Power Exchange (KPX), on Nov. 6.
Korea Power Exchange (KPX) hosted an integrated workshop of the Korea CIGRE Power System Group Study Committee on Nov. 6.
CIGRE (International Council on Large Electric Systems) is a global nonprofit organization in the field of high voltage electricity. It was founded in Paris, France in 1921.
The scope of its activities includes technical and economical aspects of the electrical grid, as well as the environmental and regulatory aspects.
About 50 experts and officials from industry, academia and research circles participated in the symposium on the sidelines of BIXPO 2019 at the KDJ (Kimdaejung) Convention Center in Gwangju, Korea from Nov. 6 to Nov. 8. Six cases on new power technologies, including one on superconducting power transmission technology, commercialized by Korea for the first time in the world, were presented during the event.
Prof. Moon Seung-il of Seoul National University wrapped up the symposium with a lecture, titled ¡°Electricity Industry Changes in an Energy Transitional Period Era.¡±
KPX analyzed variables using data on the operation of renewable energies and announced prospects and steps on variables in the wake of the spread of renewable energies in the future. Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) introduced a practice on the building of a renewable energy surveillance system.
Academic circles revealed technologies to contribute to the stable operation of power grids by detecting vibrations at an early stage, which could occur with a rise in inverter-based power facilities. Participants exchanged views on Korea¡¯s first commercialization of superconducting technology in the world and its applications.
Chairman Han Seung-gu of Korea CIGRE Power System Group Study Committee, concurrently head of the Power Grid Operation Division at KPX, said, ¡°The environment of the power industry is forecast to undergo many changes in the wake of an energy paradigm shift focusing on renewable energies and the development of the technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution, so experts on power grid will have to make thorough preparations and collaborate to transfer a crisis into opportunities.¡±

KPX Designated as Best HRD Institution
Korea Power Exchange has been certified as one of the 2019 best human resource development (HRD) institutions by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Personal Management.
The ministries operate the best HRD regime through screening of spurring the public sector¡¯s HRD investments and strengthening of competitiveness. KPX won the 2010 best HRD certification for four years in row since 2010 when KPX was granted a first certification.
The 2019 certification is value for three years. An institution, certified as best HRD, has labor surveillance exempted for three years.
