Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seung-youn.

Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seung-youn called for executives and staff members to meet endless challenges to create products, technologies and values unseen in the world. Chairman Kim made the remarks at a speech he delivered to mark the 67th anniversary of the founding of the group on Oct. 10.

Chairman Kim said, ¡°(Hanwha) should leap to a company giving dream to people and a driving force to the international community by reawakening a spirit of promoting businesses for national development at this time when external uncertainties and changes of global trade order are accelerated.¡±

¡°Hanwha, standing on the road not taken by anyone 67 years, had challenged for an innovative future,¡± he said. ¡°Starting with the localization of explosives, each business¡¯s history of challenging has led to groundwork for the national economy and a sense of pride,¡± he recalled.

He put forward the group¡¯s catchphrases ¡°Challenge, Shared Growth and Safety¡± and ¡°Innovative challengers that destroy the ecosystem of the conventional industry¡±

Chairman Kim concluded that it may take just one year for them to surpass what companies normally could have achieved in 10 years by employing unusual ideas that lead digital civilization and technology power.

Chairman Kim¡¯s late father and Hanwha Group Kim Jong-hee established Korea Explosives, predecessor of Hanwha Corp., on Oct. 9. 1952. Chairman Kim took office at the age of 29, following his father¡¯s death in 1981. He has been credited with catapulting the group, which logged about 1 trillion won in sale in 1981, to one with 60 trillion won in sales through aggressive M&As.

¡°What we need desperately at this moment is thinking and change of views to look forward for the future,¡± Chairman Kim said. He called for going back to the basics, challenging and innovating.

Kim also stressed the way toward shared growth, saying that the group should pursue co-prosperity with society by implementing investment and job creation plans without interruption. He also emphasized safety, saying that even if they record high profits, worksites can no longer carry on if they do not guarantee safety.

Hanwha group executives and staff members have been engaged in volunteering activities across the nation in celebration of the 7th anniversary.
