Pres. Lee of K-water Explains Major Objectives of Company at Parliamentary Audit Session
One objective is protecting public from all kinds of dangers associated with water by strengthening checkups on quality, quantity and supply

President Lee Hak-soo of Korea Water Resources Corp. (K-water) said he was happy to appear at a session of the Parliamentary Audit of Administration and State-run Corporations. He commented before Chairman Rep. Kim Hak-yong of the Environment and Labor Committee of the National Assembly on the major targets in the company¡¯s operation this year.
K-water did its best in the past year to produce the best results from the move to integrate water resources management, falling back on its half-century of water management experience and knowhow, but there were some shortcomings, too.
We would like to do our best in the parliamentary inspection, turning it into a precious chance to make our contribution to the integrated water resources management realization in a more developmental way by finding the proper means to do so, he said.
¡°I would like to report the four major points for building a sustainable water circulation system and to be able to provide improved services to the people that they can feel physically,¡± he said.
¡°First, we would like to realize a society safe from the danger of water. We will try to keep the people¡¯s lives protected from water disasters that increase with the changes in weather taking advantage of the technologies related to Big Data and Water Resource Satellite.
¡°To balance the figures and water quality, mixed dam water with stream water and managed them. We will try to make downstream water clean to improve the environment in the downstream area by coming up with the plans to minimize the pollutants in upstream.
¡° We will continue to push the projects for stabilizing the facilities so that they may be maintained without accidents in best conditions at all the times even in such critical events as earthquake and old age.
¡°Second, we will try to provide healthy water services so that everyone would enjoy them in comfort. We will try to water supply stable at all times achieving diversification in water resources in a balanced manner, search for replacement water resources and reuse of water as a means of water supply always, taking up such key factors as the reductions in tap water losses.
¡°We will strengthen the water quality management and the watch system with ICT as a base from production to supply, in fact all the process in water supply. We will make visits sometimes to check the water quality and cleaning water pipes to expand the comfortable tap water supply services so that an environment in which the people can drink the water with trust.
¡°Third, we will try to make contributions to the national reform growth and spurred economic growth thru water supply. We will aim at development of water surface solar energy generation and water temperature and other environment friendly energy as the No. 1 new and recycled energy enterprise in the country replacing fossil fuels and reducing fine dusts.
¡°Thru Smart City, a leading project for reformed growth, we will try to create the edges around water a space with an environment friendly specialized water with the help of ICT.
¡°We will try to build a monitoring system for quality and quantity of water on real time thru the entire process from upstream to downstream as a main organization for the platform for Big Data and environmental business.
¡°Fourth, fom the people¡¯s point of view, we will do our best in public role.
¡°To put at ease the people¡¯s anxiety over the tap water quality, following the Red Water incident in Incheon, we will be at the forefront of the effort to advance the Smart local tap water policy execution by real-time monitoring of quality and quantity of tap water and precision check on tap water supply pipe network,¡± he concluded.
