Samsung C&T ranked first for the sixth consecutive year in the 2019 evaluation of contractor construction capabilities conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT). Hoban Construction placed 10th for the first time.
ministry announced the outcomes of the 2019 evaluation of contractor construction capabilities. Samsung C&T topped the contractor construction capability evaluation amount category with 17.515.2 billion won.
The contractor has maintained the No. 1 position since 2014.
Hyundai E&C was a runner-up with 11.737.2 billion won, while Daelim Industrial ranked 3rd with 11.004.2 trillion won.
The rankings of the two companies remained unchanged, but the difference between the two in terms of contractor construction capability evaluation amounts narrowed from 3.7 trillion won last year to 700 billion won this year.
GS E&C ranked 4th with 10.405.2 trillion won and Daewoo E&C placed 5th with 9.093.1 trillion won, swapping last year¡¯s positions.
POSCO E&C placed sixth with 7.779.2 trillion won while Hyundai Engineering ranked seventh, swapping last year¡¯s positions.
Lotte E&C retained the No. 8 position with 6.064.4 trillion won while HDC Hyundai Development Company ranked ninth with 5.237 trillion won, one slot higher than last year.
Hoban Construction ranked 10th with 4.420.8 trillion won. On the strength of its acquisition of the subsidiary company Hoban, Hoban Construction made it onto the top 10 list for the first time this year, up six slots from last year¡¯s ranking.
Hoban Industry, a subsidiary of Hoban Construction, ranked 21st with 1.497.6 trillion won, a 12-slot jump.
An evaluation of contractor construction capabilities is made by factoring in civil engineering and construction performances, management conditions, technology capabilities and reliability to help tender submitters select proper contractors.
The ministry releases the values calculated based on contractor construction capabilities every July.
The values are used as guidelines for tender submitters to put restrictions into biddings and other purposes.
Combined contractor construction capability evaluation amounts for the year 2019 stood at 238.3 trillion won, up 3.3 percent over last year. Contractors subject to the contractor construction capability evaluation numbered 61,559, accounting for 80 percent of the nation¡¯s total 68,781 construction companies.
