Notables are engaged in a performance, part of a ceremony to mark the 2019 Occupational Safety & Health Day was held at the COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, on July 1. A ceremony to mark the 2019 Occupational Safety & Health Day was held at the COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, on July 1 under the catchphrase, ¡°Safety, to be Observed Together, Rights, to be Enjoyed by Everyone.¡±


Starting with the 2019 Occupational Safety & Health Day anniversary event, the 2019 Occupational Safety and Health Week got underway at the COEX for a five-day run until July 5. Diverse events, including an international occupational safety & health exhibition, 34 seminars designed to prevent deaths caused by industrial accidents, took place during the 2019 Occupational Safety and Health Week.


The first week of every July has been designed Occupational Safety and Health Week since 1968. Occupational Safety & Health Day falls on the first Monday of the week to emphasize the importance of occupational safety and health.

The 2019 Occupational Safety & Health Day anniversary event was hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) and organized by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA).


Among some 500 people on hand at the 2019 Occupational Safety & Health Day anniversary event were representatives from MOEL, the Economic, Social and Labor Council, the Federation of Korea Trade Unions, the Korea Employers Federation, Korea Federation of SMEs, KOSHA, and other related organizations.


Twenty-one people were presented with orders and other prizes in recognition of their contributions to the prevention of occupational accidents.


Among the award winners were Kim Jong-gu, head of 3M Korea¡¯s plant in Naju. Kim, in charge of occupational safety and health, was honored with the Order of Industrial Merit Service, Bronze Tower for his leading role in creating a safe occupational environment, such as the inauguration of programs designed to explore companywide industrial dangerous factors.


MOEL Minister Lee Jae-gap gave words of encouragement to the award winners.


He said every worker¡¯s life and safety is important regardless the type of employment, and the ministry would redouble efforts to halve fatalities, caused by occupational accidents by implementing revisions of the Act on the Occupational Safety and Health as well as focusing on preventing accidents at construction sites.
