About 63,000 POSCO officials join in talent donation drives on occasion of ¡®Global Volunteer Week¡¯

POSCO executives and staff in 55 countries across the world joined forces in participating in talent donation drives on the occasion of ¡°Global Volunteer Week¡± from May 24 to June 1. Global Volunteer Week is an annual volunteer contribution drive being observed by POSCO group yearly since 2010 in order to fulfill social responsibilities as a global company.


About 63,000 POSCO executives and staff joined forces in conducing volunteer activities under the catchphrases ¡°Share the Talent, Change My Town.¡± They participated in volunteer activities using each personal talent such as expertise and skills in order to put into practice POSCO¡¯s management tenets as corporate citizens. Volunteer activities that took place in Pohang during Global Volunteer Week included a drive to purify the marine eco-system, a session of teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency aid, and a field day for underprivileged children in the neighborhood area.


In Gwangyang, Jeollanam-do, there were volunteer activities such as the repairing of agricultural machineries and electrical equipment, a session of teaching underprivileged children and a ceremony for occupants to move into ¡°Hope House¡± No. 10.


On May 24, the first day of Global Volunteer Week, POSCO Chairman Choi Jeong-woo, along with members of 10 talent donation organizations, participated in diverse volunteering activities such as the drawing of mural on walls, wall papering of houses for the elderly who live alone.


Chairman Choi toured a field of repairing agricultural machineries by one of the talent donation bodies in Gwangyang. He gave words of encouragement to POSCO executives and staff participating in the volunteer activities.

POSCO International taught English to children in the Incheon area as a talent donation program, while POSCO E&C joined forces in participating in talent donation programs, provided by 10 POSCO group companies such as the operating of an talent donation academy on construction.


In China, POSCO officials participated in volunteering activities such as dishing out food to a center for senior citizens and donating of stationery to Chinese children of Korean ethnicity. In India, volunteers carried out drives to improve the environment and provide medical services, while in Indonesia, POSCO staff repaired facilities of an orphanage in the neighborhood area.


In particular, in Thailand, executives and staff of POSCOI-South Asia participated in volunteer works such as the rebuilding of a library of a primary school in the neighborhood area while those from POSCO-Thainox donated gifts such as beverage drinks to solders in military duty, placed wreaths to a Korean War veterans memorial and carried out activities such as tree planting and cleaning of its surrounding area.


Chairman Choi said, ¡°POSCO executives and staff will devote themselves to play a part of members of corporate citizenship by participating in talent donation activities on a voluntary basis by using their expertise and capabilities.¡±


POSCO plans to explore and nurture more talent donation organizations with the goal of raising the number of such bodies in service from current 26 to 50 by year-end. POSCO plans to host a session of sharing and spreading exemplary practices of corporate citizenship.
