LG Uplus crew members are building a 5G telecom network line in Gyengpo, Gangwon-do.
LG Uplus came up with a plan to build 80,000 base stations around the nation to stabilize 5G mobile telecom services by the end of this year.
The telecom service provider plans to hurry up the basestation buildup after securing 5G mobile telecom service equipment in cooperation with equipment makers.
LG Uplus plans to expand base stations to dong areas in six metropolitan cities, including Daejeon and Busan, by next month. And 85 dong areas will also have base stations by year-end. Starting with this year, the telecom service provider will concentrate on base station buildup in Gyeongsangnam-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do areas.
Seven major cities, including Gangneung and Wonju, are expected to have base stations by the end of next month. LG Uplus is trying to secure equipment enough to build base stations in the Jeolla and Chungcheong provincial areas.
More than 10,000 base stations have already been installed in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul. An additional 7,800 piece of equipment will be installed to enhance the quality of 5G mobile telecom network. The step is designed to raise the quality of communications at major apartment and commercial areas. Currently, LG Uplus has about 20,000 5G base stations in place across the nation.
LG Uplus utilizes the conventional LTE lines as 5G mobile telecom services by using 5G optical multiplexers the telecom service provider has jointly developed in cooperation with Korean makers. The telecom service provider has increased the number of base station builders by two or three times more than earlier this year to cut down on installation time, an LG Uplus official said.

LG Uplus Collaborates with SMEs over LTE-R Technology
LG Upls launched an open innovation project with SMEs at the LTE-R Integrated Verification Center.
LTE-R is a high-speed G4 LTE network specifically mapped out for railway usage.
LG Uplus and SMEs are exploring how to connect the LTE-R for railway usage and new technologies and solutions. The step is designed not only to ramp up collaboration with SMEs and startups which are trying to enter the LTE-R sector, but also to ramp up the competitiveness of the LTE-R Integrated Verification Center.
The LTE-R Integrated Verification Center is a technology verification center being installed via long-term transmission network between the LG Science Park in Magok-dong, Seoul, and the Daejeon R&D Center.
The LTE-R Integrated Verification Center has an environment identical to the real operation of railway network, so cooperative companies can conduct tests and produce verification data.
