President Park Sang-woo of Korea Land & Housing Corp. (LH)
Korea Land & Housing Corp. (LH) has come up with comprehensive steps to tackle fine dust from an urban design perspective related to the implementation of new projects. The steps are designed to ease apartment occupants¡¯ misgivings and comply with the government¡¯ steps to reduce fine dust.
To this end, LH will plow a combined 534 billion won into the plan by 2022.
Among 14 core tasks in four fields are steps to strengthen life infrastructure to protect the underprivileged; establish guidelines related to management of construction sites; introduce preemptive steps to reduce fine dust from a stage of city design; and conduct R&D to address find dust. The foremost task LH will implement is about the protection of life health of occupants of 1.12 million rental apartments, built by LH.
LH will install air purifiers at residents¡¯ public facilities at rental apartment complexes and at new elevators, to be replaced with old ones. Indoor children¡¯s playgrounds will be expanded so that they can play without comprehension over fine dust.
Newly built rental apartments and new towns will be designed in such as way that fine dust can be addressed with ease and in a convenient fashion by making fine dust detection sensors using smart home technologies, forced machine ventilation systems and air curtains.
LH also plans to strengthen the management of floating dust occurring at construction sites. In order to cope with fine dust in a systematic fashion, LH plans to work out worksite guidelines against fine dust while expanding the operation of facilities such as tunnel-like wheel washing machines and dust-inhaling vehicles.
Air purifiers at rest places will be installed and dust-gathering vehicles will be introduced at construction sites to improve the health of breathing organ of construction workers. Diverse fine dust reduction technologies will be introduced from a stage of city design for the construction of new residential complexes such as the third phase new satellite cities and Sejong Smart City.
Intra-city woods, forest buffer zones and street trees will be expanded to max out the effect of absorbing fine dust via forests while clean road systems using rainfall and water will be installed on major trunk roads to minimize the occurrence of fine dust, caused by friction by running vehicles.
LH will spearhead the implementation of pilot projects to build infrastructure to invigorate the hydrogen economy and reflect hydrogen car and EV charging facilities at its project plans. LH¡¯s anti-fine dust measures and investment plans are expected to help early market exploration and give a shot in the arm to tapping new markets such as ventilation equipment, smart home appliance markets, and hydrogen car/EV markets.
LH President Park Sang-woo said, ¡°Through the comprehensive steps, we¡¯ll devote ourselves to easing people¡¯s misgivings over fine dust concerns.¡±
LH will aggressively collaborate with organizations such as the central government, local governments and industry communities to reduce fine dust, plaguing the nation, he added.
