“Genie Pay,” KT’s mobile payment and digital wallet system, won the best mobile innovation for payment and fintech,while it's the integrated orchestrator platform received the best network software breakthrough category in the Global Mobile Awards 2019 (GLOMO). The award ceremony was held in Barcelona, Spain, on Feb. 26.

GLOMO, hosted by the GSMA, is a globally recognized award show dedicated to the telecom sector. The Global Mobile Awards 2019 was the 24th rendition in Spain. GLOMO awards are presented to companies and services which have made best achievements globally in 10 categories, including technology, terminal and content.

KT became the first company in the world to succeed in the commercialization of “Genie Pay,” based on a voice verification settlement technology. Genie Pay has been recognized as the world’s best technology in the voice verification settlement segment as the mobile payment and digital wallet system was presented with the best mobile innovation for payment and fintech category in GLOMO.

Genie Pay enables account settlements only via users’ voice without a smartphone or TV remote control. Genie Pay is a payment system optimal for voice command-enabled artificial intelligence services. Conventional voice-enabled settlements are offered by a variety of companies, but they come short of convenience and safety due to the requirement of code numbers and the omission of an additional verification process.

On the other hand, Ginie Pay boasts of the best security guarantee among voice settlement services in place since it employs the latest security technologies, realization of a biometrics verification technology based on the FIDO (fast identity online) standards and anti-spoofing, and public key infrastructure, and hash-based message authentication code, a KT official said.

KT plans to apply Ginie Pay to GiGa Ginie services such as shopping and content and offer users’ verification and other diverse services with the biometrics verification technology of Ginie Pay.

KT Executive Vice President Park Soo-chul in charge of financial business platform said, “The winning of the awards is KT’s excellent voice settlement technology being recognized on the global stage. KT plans to spread Ginie Pay to a variety of fields ranging from AI-enabled speakers to AI hotels, AI apartments and self-driving cars, he added.

The winning integrated orchestrator platform technology, designed to ensure efficient management of network slicing, a core 5G technology, allows fast composition via virtualization of all networks, ranging from terminals to core equipment and the changing of network according to each service. Service networks based on “network slicing,” tailored to meet B2B customers’ diverse needs, can be made up fast at a place that customers want, and services can be offered in a stable fashion through optimal management of customers’ service networks.

KT succeeded in ensuring an efficient management of 5G service networks by applying the integrated orchestrator platform technology to 5G networks installed for a pilot project to demonstrate 5G services during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games. The integrated orchestrator platform technology was employed to the LTE commercial networks for corporate users for the first time last June.

In the 5G era, self-driving cars, hologram, AR/VR-based content and other diverse services will be realized in earnest, and the integrated control system technology is expected to ensure the efficient management of networks and the composition of service networks with quality and characteristics required by each service in a fast and flexible fashion.

KT Senior Executive Vice President Suh Chang-seok in charge of network strategy said, With the winning of the awards, KT has achieved a feat of having the integrated control system technology for managing its virtualization networks recognized globally.” The employing of 5G commercialization networks with the integrated control system will stabilize quality, differentialized 5G services, he added.
