MadebyMom puts on the market ¡°Edu Mat¡± with a function of learning, proved to be safe for kids.
An increasing number of mom-turned business leaders are launching startups specializing in baby-related items. CEO Ha Mi-na of the startup ¡°Madeby Mom¡± is one of the Korean mom-turned startup business leaders in the baby product category. CEO Ha began to show her concern for mats while raising her son. She set up a corporate entity in 2017 with the goal of producing mats proved to have no harmful substances and good design. She then launched the mat brand ¡°LIKU.¡±
Under the brand LIKU, MadebyMom has released education-related mats and design mats in two categories. The ¡°Edu Mat¡± is designed for playing and learning a variety of content based on the alphabet, figures, days of the week, animals, countries and colors in six languages, including Korean and English. Edu Mat and seven posters contain a combined 3,000 kinds of content, equivalent to 150 children¡¯s books.
They include ¡°Learning Alphabet by Sound¡±; ¡°Learning Figures by Sound¡±; ¡°Learning Hangul (Korean Alphabet) by Sound¡±; ¡°Zoo Friends¡±; ¡°Xylophone Ding-dong Play¡±; and ¡°Study Travel to the World.¡±
LIKU¡¯s Edu Mat is a combination of the conventional PVC mat for babies and learning function. Kids can learn more than 3,000 kinds of content in six languages by touching a letter or a picture on the mat.
They can learn the exact pronunciations of native foreign languages while playing. The Edu Mat is useful for teaching children from multi-cultural families as it can be converted to six languages, including Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish.
If you touch a number on the Lullaby part on top of the Edu Mat, a classical music can be played for about five minutes and you can play all built-in pieces of music for about 30 minutes.
The Design Mat is designed with six months of work by a commissioned designer from New York. Its design is patented.
CEO Ha said she devoted herself to doing specifics, including the company name ¡°Baby by Mom¡± and the use of materials proved to be safe for kids as if mothers get involved in person. Ha said she also prioritized in design.
The design concept is that even though kids doodled like graffiti, they are cute and harmonious with any place of each home and the office environment. She said she was involved in the shooting of her catalog in person at home and she tried to make the color of the mats get along with the mono tone of the kitchen.
Upon releasing the mats last May, MadebyMom participated in a foreign fair despite neighbors¡¯ opposition, but they attracted the attention of buyers and the company managed to export them.
MadebyMom became the first Korean winner of the Best of the Fair Award in the baby item category when the company participated in the 2019 Baby toys and Baby Wear Fair.
CEO Ha said she will make all-out efforts to make the brand LIKU made better known to Korean consumers than ever in the next five years.
