LG Uplus decided to cooperate on 5G businesses with global payers such as Verizon, one of the biggest telecom service providers in the U.S., Vodafone of the UK, one of Europe¡¯s biggest telecom service providers, and Finland¡¯s No. 1 telecom service provider, Elisa, on the sidelines of the 2019 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, on Feb. 27.
LG Uplus is forging a close cooperative relationship with global market leaders. It came one month after the Korean telecom service provider announced a deal to jointly make VR content with Google on the sidelines of the 2019 International CES in Las Vegas, the United States, last January.
The latest deal established a beachhead to explore differentiated 5G services.
LG Uplus Vice Chairman Ha Hyun-hoe had a series of meetings with President Ronan Dunne of Verizon Consumer Group, Vodafone CCO & CSO Ahmed Essam, Elisa CEO Veli-Mati Mttila, and major Japanese telecom service provider CEOs to discuss ways of promoting cooperation in areas such specialized 5G services, content and startups.
First of all, LG Uplus will cooperate in joint AR/VR content investments and 5G game sectors by operating the ¡°5G Regular Consultative Body¡± with Verizon.
Verizon is now working on the development of specialized AR and VR services in areas such as media, fashion, distribution and sports. To this end, Verizon has attracted startups and research institutes in a 5G open lab and strives to offer VR streaming services via the YouTube on top of the development of AR and VR content.
LG Uplus is preparing for the development of AR entertainment content and VR-oriented platforms. LG Uplus, recognizing the importance of offering AR and VR services when 5G smartphones are put on the market, plans to lead a race to secure exclusive 5G contents and the creation of a related ecosystem by working out ways of making joint content investments with Verizon on top of joint production of VR content with Google.
LG Uplus, working on the commercialization of 5G cloud VR games, will cooperate on 5G game areas by exploring 5G games content, developing specialized platforms and jointly sponsoring mobile/cloud game events with Verizon.
Verizon is at work exploring business models in the 5G game segment by cooperating with mobile/cloud game developers from a planning development stage.
The American company convened a massive event in New York by inviting about 20 game developers and demonstrating 5G games. LG Uplus is expected to create new revenues in the mobile game segment through aggressive collaboration with Verizon.
LG Uplus will ramp up a partnership to explore 5G services and new markets with Vodafone. The Korean telecom service provider has maintained a strategic partnership with Vodafone for the past 17 years.
Vodafone has built one of the world¡¯s best global networks. The British telecom service provider has offered mobile and wired telecom services in 25 countries, maintained partnerships with telecom service provides in 45 countries and secured business networks with about 1,500 multinational companies.
Vodafone is test-operating 5G services in the U.K., Germany and Spain.
LG Uplus is devoting itself to exploring corporate business models such as smart factories, smart drones, heavy equipment remote control, intelligent CCTVs, and self-driving precision maps. LG Uplus is looking forward to having win-win strategies to tap new 5G markets and implement projects through souped-up partnership with Vodafone.
LG Uplus plans to focus on discussions on the status of 5G preparations and B2B strategies in countries in which Vodafone has entered by holding conferences and forums with the latter on a regular basis while seeking to explore world-class corporate business models.
LG Uplus is to sign an MOU on the joint implementation of startup exploration and network automation with Elisa.
