Doosan Infracore has been picking up orders for construction machinery one after another in new construction markets around the world, including South America and southeast Asia.
The company announced on Feb. 24 it signed a contract with Besalco of Chile to sell 21 excavators slightly modified to be used in the mountainous areas in such areas as mining, forests and construction.
The Chilean company already operates around 300 such machines in Chile and the neighboring Peru and this is the first time the company is buying construction machinery from Doosan Infracore.
The Korean construction machinery maker also signed a contract with Pyae Phyo Tun Industrial of Myanmar to sell 20 excavators each weighing some 22 tons to be used to build shrimp farms modified slightly to deal with mud and on board the ships.
Officials of the company said Besalco¡¯s purchase of the machinery has a big meaning as the Chilean builder has been using competitors¡¯ construction machinery until now and could lead the way for our company to boost the sale of its construction machinery in South America.
¡°We will continue to make our efforts to diversify the market for our construction machinery to Africa, southeast Asia and the Middle East, some of the growing construction markets around the world,¡± Doosan Infracore said. The company picked up an order for 45 22-ton excavators in Iraq, the largest single order the company got in the Middle East. Its affiliate Doosan Bobcat also got a big order for 30 skid steer loaders in the country.
The company did well last year, too, getting an order for 44 excavators and 16-wheel loaders from a large construction company in Sudan. The company also clinched an order for 27-wheel loaders from a mining company in Algeria, and an order for 20 excavators from a gold mining company in Ghana.
Doosan Infracore did well in emerging markets last year selling its construction machinery with the sales up to the 3quarter in those markets coming to 719billion won in 2016,871.5 billion won in 2017, and 897.8 billion won in 2018. The company¡¯s construction machinery sales in emerging markets came to 16.3 percent of its total annual sales.
Strategically located adjacent to the Doosan Infracore North America headquarters in Suwanee, Ga., approximately 30 mi. northeast of Atlanta, the new parts distribution center allows Doosan Infracore North America to provide both dealers and customers with better service options, deeper inventory and faster parts delivery.
"Doosan is committed to being a top-five construction equipment brand in North America, and this new parts distribution center illustrates our promise to support our dealers and our customers with parts availability and prompt delivery," said Edward Song, CEO, Doosan Infracore North America LLC.
"We can significantly reduce shipping costs and we can provide less than two-day delivery on a majority of our genuine Doosan parts delivered from our dedicated warehouse."
The facility is designed for Doosan parts distribution and shipping. It is managed by DHL Supply Chain — the Americas' leader in contract logistics. The center will stock approximately 40,000 stock keeping units (SKUs) that can be shipped to service Doosan construction equipment throughout the United States and Canada.
The parts distribution center will house a majority of Doosan parts, with only some low-volume parts needing to come from Doosan manufacturing facilities around the globe. DHL Supply Chain will provide outbound less-than-load (LTL) transportation to Doosan equipment dealers located in the United States and Canada.
"This is really a signal of our commitment to our Doosan customers in the United States and Canada," said Clay Caldwell, Doosan director of parts and supply chain. "Working with DHL Supply Chain allows us to reduce our order cycle times to ensure our customers are receiving critical replacement parts quickly and efficiently. We're excited to work with a partner that not only understands our business and markets but has the capabilities to provide strategic warehousing options and seamless transportation integration."
