Samsung Electronics showed off 5G commercialization power at MWC19 in Barcelona, Spain, from Feb. 25 to 28 by displaying a wide range of 5G solutions ranging from chipsets to smartphones and telecom equipment at its booth.

With its MWC exhibits, Samsung celebrated a decade of Galaxy innovation with a dynamic showcase featuring the brand-new Galaxy S10, the centerpiece of which is the company¡¯s first-ever 5G smartphone, the Galaxy S10 5G. MWC attendees were also able to catch a first glimpse of the Galaxy Fold, the groundbreaking folding smartphone unveiled at the recent Galaxy Unpacked.

Moreover, visitors were given the chance to learn about Samsung¡¯s industry-defining end-to-end 5G solutions and the connectivity potential brought about by its latest innovations, from chips and networking equipment to devices.

In addition to offering a first look at innovations that are accelerating the development of 5G networks, the interactive demos in Samsung¡¯s Mobile and Networks booths offered visitors the opportunity to get hands-on with the company¡¯s latest groundbreaking mobile devices – including the new Galaxy Fold and Galaxy S10 5G. The former features a revolutionary foldable form, while the latter places the power of 5G networks in consumers¡¯ hands.

Spectators took a first-hand look at 5G¡¯s super high-speed data transmission, super low latency communication service and super connectivity via telecom equipment, now offering commercialization services in Korea and the United States.

They confirmed that 5G mobile communications has become a reality, not a thing of science fiction, indicating the potential for unprecedented experiences in a variety of fields such as smartphones, connected cars and smart factories.

Samsung showed its new Galaxy S10 5G mobile phone, designed with the best hardware and software to take advantage of the full 5G experience.

Also on display was a full spectrum of equipment that helps make widescale 5G deployment possible. They included the next generation multi-mode modem chips and RF modules that are smaller in size, more energy-efficient and at the cutting-edge of technology, demonstrating Samsung¡¯s innovation leadership beyond mobile and display.

¡°At Samsung, we believe in delivering innovations that impact consumer lives,¡± said President Koh Dong-jin of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. ¡°For more than 35 years, we¡¯ve led the industry in new hardware and services that have helped to revolutionize the consumer experience. At MWC this year, we¡¯re showcasing the remarkable breadth of our expanding connected ecosystem, from game-changing 5G end-to-end solutions to outstanding new additions to the Galaxy family such as Galaxy Fold and Galaxy S10 5G.¡±

5G Industrial Robot Application

An autonomous robot carrying manufacturing parts transmitted live video feeds taken by a 360¨¬ camera and a Full HD camera, both installed in the robot. The video streams allowed operators to monitor the robot¡¯s environment remotely, and react and control it when its autonomous operation was interrupted due to unexpected obstacles in its path.

The video and the commands controlling the robot were transmitted through a 5G network. This demonstration was done in cooperation with Acciona, a global company providing renewables, infrastructure and services.

The demonstrations showed industrial use cases powered by 5G¡¯s ultra-reliability, low-latency and high-capacity.

Samsung and Cisco joined forces for this live demonstration. Samsung used its 5G solutions including virtualized RAN, one of the smallest 5G access units, multiple indoor and outdoor 5G routers, and 5G tablets. Cisco¡¯s Ultra Gateway Platform delivers a 5G virtual packet core on top of Cisco NFV Infrastructure that brings enhanced throughput and flexibility. Leveraging the wide bandwidth available at mmWave bands, like 26GHz, and advanced antenna technologies like massive MIMO and beamforming, the companies were able to achieve mobility, a very low end-to-end latency, and high capacity enabling the transfer of high-quality video feeds.
