KEPCO KPS President Kim Bum-nyun joins in a drive to reduce the use of plastic emerging as one of the environment woes the nation is struggling to tackle.



KEPCO KPS carried out reorganization on Jan. 13 in order to enhance customers¡¯ value as a public power facility O&M service provider, fulfill sate tasks without interruption and drive sustainable growth.


The restructuring is designed to focus on core business capabilities, nurture manpower and ramp up R&D departments to lay a foundation for future growth.


Following the reorganization, KEPCO KPS conducted a reshuffle of 47 department heads or higher. The latest personnel change was designed to assign officials with ample experience at site positions, ramp up support and communications for customers and accelerate innovation and change to make a leap forward anew.


KEPCO KPS President Kim Bum-nyun joined a campaign to reduce the use of plastic, which is emerging as an environmental woe the nation is struggling to tackle. Kim posted on the Facebook a photo confirming his participation in the Plastic Free Challenger Campaign on Feb. 14, encouraging the use of tumblers instead of disposable cups.


President Kim joined in the drive at the request of KOEN President Lyu Hyang-yeol. Kim said he was pleased to take part in the Plastic Free Challenge Campaign and expressed hope more people will join forces in making the earth clean now that production of plastic, use and decomposition take five seconds, five minutes and 500 years, respectively.


The baton of the drive was handed over to KOMIPO President Park Hyung-gu and Senior Executive Vice President Na Ki-yong of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction.


The campaign was arranged by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Jeju Pass with the goal of addressing waste on Jeju Island. It is a relay campaign in which a person who posted his or her using of a temblor is to designate two followers.


In the meantime, KEPCO KPS puts into practice a companywide action plan to reduce disposable items in keeping with a government policy of discouraging the use of disposable products and establishing awareness toward eco-friendly consumption.


In particular, KEPCO KPS decided to redouble efforts to minimize plastic waste produced in the course of checking power generation and transmission facilities by 72 operation sites in Korea and abroad.




KEPCO KPS Has Successful Track Record in Overseas O&M Projects


KEPCO KPS has seen remarkable achievements in its successful operation and maintenance abroad.


An evaluation of KEPCO KPS¡¯s O&M project into the Ambatovy Thermal Power Plant in Madagascar showed that the project earned 99.5 points in categories such as plant operation rate, efficiency and safety accident rate related to operation and maintenance. KEPCO KPS was awarded the O&M project for one year between Sept. 1, 2017 and Aug. 31, 2018. KEPCO KPS received an additional $270,000 in performance incentive from the project owner on top of the contract money.


KEPCO KPS has been recognized as a global O&M company. It was given an incentive of about $70,000 from FPCDL of Pakistan for achieving 99.15 percent in the operation rate of the Daharki Combined Power Plant in Pakistan in August. The figure is rarely seen in Korea.
In 2011, KEPCO KPS ranked 1st in the operation rate of the Vemagiri Combined Power Plant in India among all power facilities in the Asian country for the second consecutive year.


On the back of its remarkable overseas track record, KEPCO KPS is striving to expand its business presence in countries such as Pakistan and Indonesia through the exportation of excellent homegrown maintenance technologies, a KEPCO KPS official said.
