Hyundai Motor Unveils G90 & Palisade to Recoup Sagging Sales on Global Market
Releases luxury sedan Genesis G90 in Seoul on Nov. 27 and SUV Palisade and G3 new car Soul at 2018 LA Auto Show

21(Fri), Dec, 2018

Hyundai Motor President Lee Won-hee joins other executives, including Manfred L. Fitzgerald, Senior Vice President for Genesis Brand at Hyundai Motor, at a ceremony to release the luxury sedan Genesis G90 for the first time in Korea at Seoul Shilla Hotel on Nov. 27.

Hyundai Motor has come up with “ambitious new cars” such as G90 and the new large-sized sports utility vehicle Palisade to turn around sagging sales on global markets.

The automaker released the luxury sedan Genesis G90 for the first time in Seoul on Nov. 27 and unveiled the SUV Palisade and G3 new car Soul on Nov. 28 prior to the opening of the 2018 LA Auto Show.

Hyundai Motor’s releasing the new flagship cars are designed to recoup sales on the global markets next year.

Genesis’s premier sedan G90 made its debut at a ceremony at Seoul Shilla Hotel and put it on the domestic market.

G90 is a face-lift version of EQ 900 the brand Genesis introduced in 2015. The luxury sedan is dubbed as G90 on the overseas market, and Hyundai Motor released a new model with the same name on the domestic market this time.

Starting Nov. 20 when pre-sale application was launched, G90 was partially made known to the public, but it was the first time that the full features of G90 were disclosed at the event.

G90 has come up with dramatic inside and outside look changes enough to ignore the words of partial face-lift, analysts said. Thanks to these, 6,713 units were sold during the 11-day pre-sale application period starting Nov. 12.

The figure has topped 6,688 units of the peer luxury car EQ900 sold during the first 10 months of this year. In 2015 when EQ900 made its debut, about 10,000 units were sold in a 13-day pre-sale application period.

Despite the partial face-lift, G90 is enjoying popularity as an equivalent to a brand-new car. Starting with its launch on the North America market, the new G90 model is to be put on markets such as Russia and the Middle East.

On top of G70, G80 and G90 which were released this time, three Genesis SUVs such as GV80 will be added by 2021.

In a related development, Hyundai Motor’s large-sized flagship SUV Palisade, which made its debut at the 2018 LA Auto Show, is presented as a kind “relief pitcher” to turn around sagging sales on the U.S. market.

The SUV Palisade is Hyundai Motor’s first large-sized SUV. With the latest release of Palisade, Hyundai Motor now has all-class full line-ups, including Kona, Tuckson and Santa Fe. Hyundai Motor has come under criticism for failing to come up with breakthrough SUVs on the United States, one of the world’s biggest SUV markets.

Hyundai Motor sees Palisade as the SUV to resurge back with fresh force. In this regard, Hyundai Motor Executive Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun participated in the LA Auto Show in person to back the release of Palisade and look at market networks.
