Ex-KETI Pres. Choi Takes Office as 6th KOMIPO President
Former Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) President Choi Pyeong-rak took helm at the Korea Midland Power Co. (KOMIPO) as the sixth president at the KOMIPO head office on July 16.
He delivered his inaugural speech in which he declared his new catchphrase, ¡°Korea¡¯ s Power Plant of Happiness, Power KOMIPO.¡± He expressed his wish that KOMIPO will leap forward not just as Korea¡¯ s classic energy company that creates the energy of happiness for the people, but also as a global company armed with power and capabilities. In order to gain these goals, Choi has expounded on the top three management tenets ¡Æ¢â creative and challenging spirit, excellent capabilities, and communication & sharing.
The new KOMIPO president pledged to do his utmost to stabilize power demand and supply and expand power supply capabilities among other tasks he will implement during his tenure.
¡°The Boryeong Thermal Power Unit 3 has achieved the feat of running a record high of 4,500 days without an accident and demonstrated unprecedented technological prowess by developing on its own gas turbine maintenance technologies, which have previously been imported from foreign countries by constructing the Incheon Combined Cycle Power Unit 3 by dismantling and transferring the Boryeong Combined Cyber Power Unit 4, in what is the current state of technology,¡± he said.
KOMIPO will devote itself to ensuring a stable supply of quality power by constantly developing these core technologies, said President Choi, adding that the ongoing Shin Boryeong Thermal Power Units 1 & 2, Seoul Combined Cycle Power, and Sejong Combined Heat & Heat Power projects will be pushed forward without a hitch.
¡°Secondly,¡± he said, ¡°KOMIPO will make efforts to the fullest to diversify its new business portfolios and constantly create new growth engines. KOMIPO will expand our business environs endlessly beyond the borders and awarding overseas power projects to KOMIPO will make it worthwhile by differentiating itself from other power companies.¡± The new president urged his executives and staff members not just to expand their power and capabilities in order to achieve the goal of rising to a world-class company, but also to be armed with a creative and challenging spirit and to devote themselves to innovating the way they work in the field and securing core technologies.
¡°Thirdly,¡± he said, ¡°KOMIPO will be asked to take the lead in the ecosystem of industries from a big-picture perspective and in the ecosystem of the power/energy industry from a small-picture perspective.¡± He noted that the electricity industry coexists with diverse manufacturing sectors, service and energy industries, and it also interacts with diverse economic entities. Given the fact that the power industry, a basic and key industry, has an impact on the existence and growth of other industries, he said, it needs to cut a conspicuous figure and create new business portfolios and new values by ramping up its core supporting functions. ¡°In particular,¡± he said, ¡°it is our desire to develop advanced technologies to cope with climate change as well as new and renewable energies since thermal power is blamed for a major culprit of causing global warming and climate change.¡±
¡°Fourthly,¡± he said, ¡°KOMIPO will attach priority to establishing a management foundation for sustainable growth. KOMIPO needs to be reborn as a performance-oriented organization as soon as possible in order to achieve its task as a public enterprise ¡Æ¢â cutting down on public burden and yielding the biggest outcomes.¡±
