Plans to supply combined 500,000 cook stoves to houses in Ghana in cooperation with the Climate Change Center

Korea East-West Power Co. (EWP) is participating in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project to spread ¡°Clean Cook Stoves¡± in Ghana. Among those on hand at a ceremony to sign a contract for the project were Chairman Kang Chang-hee of the Climate Change Center, Deputy Minister Joseph Cudjoe of the Ministry of Energy of Ghana, and Pyo Young-joon, head of EWP¡¯s Business Division.
The Climate Change Center, one of the nonprofit climate change organizations in Korea, struck a deal on the project, and EWP plans to supply a combined 500,000 cook stoves to houses in Ghana in cooperation with the Climate Change Center.
A ¡°Cook stove¡± is a cooking means produced with wood, metal and clay that can reduce fuel use by 20 to 30 percent, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. It also cuts down on cooking time, improves life environment and contributes to improving residents¡¯ health and quality of life.
The project to supply high-efficiency cook stoves in Ghana is part of its effort to participate in worldwide climate change initiatives and contribute to improving the quality of residents¡¯ lives through local production and supply of greenhouse gas emission reduction products, an EWP official said.

Generators at Dangjin Thermal Power Complex See 300-Day Accident-Free Run
All 10 generators at the Dangjin Thermal Power Complex logged a 300-day accident-free run as of Nov. 2. The thermal power complex has 10 units with a combined capability of 6.04 million kW. The 300-day accident-free operation is the sole record achieved among Korean power plants.
¡°All staff members at the Dangjin Thermal Power Complex and cooperative companies succeeded in pinpointing potential factors that could cause breakdowns and undermine safety and environment through discussions and collaboration and taking preemptive measures, leading to achieving of the accident-free record.¡± an EWP official said.
EWP will not rest on its logging a 300-day accident-free record and will make all-out efforts to achieve a 400-day accident –free record at all the units and stabilize power supply, he added.
Reinforced Environment/Safety Pledge by Staff with Dangjin Thermal Power Complex
In a related development, all employees with the Dangjin Thermal Power Complex pledged to strengthen environment and safety awareness at a rally at the grand auditorium of the complex on Nov. 8.
The rally was designed to realize an eco-friendly work site through preventive environment management and protect employees from industrial disasters by reinventing their work environment on a voluntary basis and raise staff¡¯s awareness toward environment and safety by reviewing up the latest self-ignition of a coal yard of the power complex.
In order to prevent accidents similar to the late self-ignition, the Dangjin Thermal Power Complex has built a video interphone real-time reporting system around the clock and a systematic five-stage self-ignition warning regime in place.
