Korea Water Resources Corp. (K-water) held its 51st anniversary ceremony on Nov. 15 at its head office in Daejeon, where the company declared the Vision for Water Circulation Service Partner for Everyone to Enjoy.

The new vision included 4 major strategies reflecting the opinions of its diverse interest sharing parties and the people. K-water will build a water circulation infrastructure focused on quality, quantity and water ecology.

The new vision is about realizing the welfare for everyone, including nature, humans, current and future generations of people.

K-water will build a water circulation infrastructure focused on quality, quantity and water ecology.

K-water provided training sessions to the 12 water management employees of the five islands in the Pacific, including Fiji and Tonga, from Oct. 10- 27 at the company¡¯s Personnel Training Institute in Daejeon. The training course included such key subjects as water resources development and management, among other courses.

K-water set up the event in cooperation with the Korea International Support Team to train the water resources management employees from the Pacific islands, which included Samoa, Kiribati, and Palau to round up the five islands that sent their water resources management officials to the training event. Those islands suffered from chronic water shortages due to the lack of the fresh water facilities, technology and personnel to manage those facilities.

The islands had a high dependence on underground and rain water.

K-water tried to show the 12 water management officials such key issues as setting up policies related to water resources management, knowhow on the reuse of underground water and rain water, turning seawater into soft water, management of water quality, the prevention of the loss of water and the development of new recycled energy, among others, to help them overcome the problems related to water management on their islands.

They visited Jeju Island to have a look at its water containment system, especially the island¡¯s moves to prevent the loss of water, reservoirs to contain rain water and methods employed to manage the reservoirs.

They learned how to cope with climate change and had first-hand look at how water resources are managed on the island which is similar to the five islands they come from.

They also toured facilities that turn seawater to soft water on Juk Island in Boryung, South Chungcheong Province and the Seoul National University Rain Water Research Center.

President Lee Hak-su said he prepared for the training sessions knowing that they have such troubles from water shortages on their islands due to climate change.
¡°We plan to hold similar training sessions for the world to take care of the water problems once and for all.¡± he said.

K-water, in the meantime, invited 50 officials from six Asian countries, including Nepal, India and the Asia Development Bank from Oct. 16-17 to discuss cooperation with those countries on water resources management. The rest of the countries were Maldives, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka to round up the six countries.

They were led to visit the Integrated Water Resources Management Center for the Han River Area in Kwachon, Gyeonggi Province on Oct. 16 and traveled to Daejeon to visit the K-water head office and the Water Quality Research Center and the Integrated Water Information Center to have a look around on what they do at those facilities and also visited the Daecheong Dam to see how the dam is managed and discuss the cooperation on water resources management between K-water and those countries.

K-water also won the Sustainable Management Grand Award in the area of the Sustainable Report of the 2018 Global Standard Management Grand Award, the company said on Oct. 31.

K-water noted in the Sustainable Report its major achievements including the boosting the public water welfare and the development of the water industry, coping with climate changes with the integrated water management and connecting them with the 3 major factors in the UN¡¯s sustainable development goals - social development, economic growth, and preservation of environment, getting a high evaluation.

President Lee Hak-su said we shall to our best to create a social value from the development of the water industry and water, realizing the sustainable water management reflecting environment and achieving a sustainable water management for the future generations as a water management public firm.

K-water has been publishing the Sustainable Management Report every year since 2005 to share its management results with the people strengthening its social responsibility and the ethical management.
