In this regards, the current regime of President Moon has put much emphasis on 'Social Value', which means the value that could contribute to providing the public with benefits and to developing the community, implying the diverse concepts such as welfare, safety, volunteering, cooperation, balance, ecology, ethics, human right and justice, opportunity for the minority, etc.

Also, concerns have been raised over how we could respond to new challenges, the
4th Industrial Revolution. The 4th Industrial Revolution, characterized by 'hyperconnectivity' and 'superintelligence', represents the combination of cyber-physical system, Internet of Things and Internet of Systems, and is expected to transform the way that we live by giving huge impact to all disciplines and industries.

Meanwhile, efforts for communication with stakeholders and innovation are fundamental and critical factors to success of radioactive waste management since it grows out of trust enhancement and technological development.

In particular, radioactive waste management program in Korea, as one of the public services that the government is primarily responsible for, should get along with the national policy and agenda, and be initiative and proactive in dealing with environmental changes. In other words, radioactive waste management cannot avoid or escape the new waves of this era, such as 'Social Value' and 'the 4th Industrial Revolution'.

It is envisaged that the environmental changes and challenges mentioned above are not the only matters for Korea, but also what every country is affected by and faced with.

The 5th International Symposium on Safety Improvement & Stakeholder Confidence
in Radioactive Waste Management (SaRaM) is intended to provide the opportunity to
exchange and discuss information, knowledge and experiences of each country, with
special focus on creating ‘Social Value’ to the local communities hosting radioactive waste management facilities, and innovating radioactive waste management activities using core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

In parallel, good practices of management of high level waste and decommissioning waste will be shared and discussed, in order to be fully prepared for new energy mix outlined that Korea’s dependency on nuclear energy would be gradually decreased by fading out nuclear reactors.

As a hosting organization, KORAD would welcome and appreciate every person
interested, and every opinion brought out during the 5th SaRaM.

“방사성폐기물 관리 소통과 혁신을 기반 사회가치 창출이다” 주재로 한국원자력환경공단이 11월 21일 이틀간 경주에서 주최한다.

제5차 방사성폐기물 안전관리 국제심포지엄이 저명한 국내외 방사성폐기물 전문가들이 참석한 가운데 11월 21일부터 22일까지 경주 해운대 호텔에서 열린다.

한국원자력환경공단 주최로 열리는 이번 국제심포지엄의 주재는 “방사성폐기물 관리 소통과 혁신을 기반 사회가치 창출이다.”

첫째날 오전에 특별세션(동단 동반성장협의회 및 시민단체참여 세션)을 갖는다. 곧이어 열리는 개회식에서 한국원자력환경공단 차성수 이사장이 환영사가 있을 예정이다.

기조발표 1 세션에서 “사회적 가치란 무엇인가?”라는 주제로 대통령직속정책위원회 이윤석위원이 주재발표가 있을 예정이다.

두번째 날 주제발표2 세션에서 “Nagra의 4차산업혁명 기술을 활용한 방폐물관리 혁신 우수사례”에 대하여 나그라의 국제서비스사업 부단장인 인고 블레쉬슈미트가 발표할 예정이다

한국원자력환경공단 차성수 이사장은 “방사성폐기물 관리는 안전한 기술과 국민의 신뢰를 바탕으로 추진되어야 하고, 따라서 소통과 혁신노력이 필수적으로 수반되는 대표적인 분야입니다.

즉 4차 산업혁명 기술을 활용한 안전하고 효율적인 방사성폐기물 관리를 실현하고, 이해관계자 및 지역사회와의 파트너십 구축을 통하여 지역경제 발전을 통한 균형성장, 주민참여 활성화, 복지 확대 및 다양한 기회 제공 등의 사회적 가치를 창출하는 등 방사성폐기물 관리의 지속가능성을 위한 방안을 계속적으로 모색해야 합니다. 방사성폐기물 관리를 추진하는 해외 국가 역시 이러한 사회적 요구에서 자유로울 수 없을 것이라 생각합니다” 라고 말했다.

“한국원자력환경공단은 제5차 방사성폐기물 안전관리 국제 심포지엄을 개최하여, 방사성폐기물 관리사업이 지역사회에 공헌하고, 4차 산업혁명의 물결에 지혜롭게 대응하기 위한 방안을 국내외 전문가를 모시고 논의하고자 합니다. 아울러, 국내 방사성폐기물 관리사업의 현안인 고준위방사성폐기물 관리와 해체폐기물 관리에 대한 해외 경험 및 우수사례를 공유하는 장을 함께 마련하였습니다,” 라고 덧붙였다.
