President Kim Sang-gyun of Korea Rail Network Authority(KR), 5th L, cuts the opening tape of the KR Booth at the Indonesia Infrastructure Week Oct. 31-Nov. 2 to show the history of railroad construction and operation in Korea, a big help to the development of the Korean economy.

President Kim Sang-gyun of Korea Rail Network Authority (KR) visited Jakarta, Indonesia, from Oct. 30-Nov. 2 during which he called on a number of important railroad officials to discuss additional orders to the first stage (5.8 km) Jakarta LRT Project that the Korean consortium had already won, and other railroad construction projects including the proposed Macassar Pale-Pale Railroad Construction Project in the Southeast Asian country.

The key local officials he met included the Minister of Transportation, the Vice Gov. of the Jakarta State and the president of JAKPRO (Jakarta asset management company) and other key officials of the Indonesian railroad authorities.

President Kim told them of the superiority of Korea¡¯s railroad construction and management capacities, especially its superb technologies that no other country in the world can come close to matching, which will be a great help for Indonesia¡¯s railroad management and construction.

In particular, in his meeting with the transportation minister, the KR president explained in detail the Korean consortium¡¯s preparation to bid for the Macassar-Pale-Pale Railroad Construction Project and the railroad technologies that were refined in Korea¡¯s long railroad history over 120 years, especially in such key areas as management and maintenance.

He specifically let the minister know Korea¡¯s readiness to not only deliver the know-how, but its willingness to cooperate with Indonesia on railroad projects in other countries.

In addition, the KR CEO also visited the office of the Korean consortium working on the first-stage (5.8 km) of the Jakarta LRT Project and inspected the rail line that was temporarily put in operation during the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, and asked them to do their best in completing the railroad in the first half of next year.

In the meantime, KR operated a booth in the Indonesia Infrastructure Week to show off Korea¡¯s railroad industry¡¯s growth and its help to the growth of the national economy in Korea and the cities in Indonesia which LRT helped to develop from Oct. 31-Nov. 2 attracting a hot reaction from Indonesia people and the construction experts and the people related industries gathered in Jakarta for the exhibition which was opened by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Joko Widodo also known as Jokowi, is an Indonesian politician who is the seventh and current President of Indonesia. Elected in July 2014 as the first Indonesian president to not come from an elite political or military background, he was previously the Mayor of Surakarta from 2005 to 2012, and the Governor of Jakarta from 2012 to 2014.

KR donated boxes of diapers in an expression of consolation for the damage from the earthquake that shook the Sulawesi Palu region in Indonesia on Sept. 28.

In the meantime, KR kicked off on Oct. 12 its project to install new signal system, the Korean Train Control System (KTCS) -2. in the Jeolla Line, extending from Iksan, South Jeolla Province, to Yoeosu, South Jeolla Province, a distance of some 180 km.

KR started to develop a new rail signal system from 2014 to replace the rail signal system imported from overseas with the help of other institutions including the Korea Electronics Communication Research Institute and succeeded in localizing the rail signal system in June this year. The new rail signal system will be installed in the Jeolla Line by 2021.

KR¡¯s Technology Headquarters Manager Park Min-ju said the new rail signal system will be installed all over the railroad network in Korea by 2031 at the cost of some 2.2 trillion won creating some 57,000 new jobs across the country.

The new system will boost the competitive power of the Korean railroad system in the world as it will cut the expenses to install and maintain the rail signal system.
